Can you imagine the passenger experience of this? Check those trailer hitches out there, baws.

Can the driver with the loose trailer hitch be charged?

No charges were expected to be filed in the crash, authorities said.

Man, seems like the driver is somewhat responsible for the death. If he left the pin out and the hitch fell off and went through windshield, yeah, seems he could be at fault.

Friend of mine had one break while trying to pull someone out of a ditch. Damn thing shot through the air and straight through the windshield.
Luckily, no one was in the passenger seat or they'd be dead.

Criminally, not likely. Civil, absolutely.

Co worker fabricated his own swing out spare tire mount for his jeep. After a few years of use he looked back while driving down Beltway 8 to see his spare tire bouncing down the road. A miracle that nobody was hit.

I was following behind a truck that had some plastic tables in the back on i-12. His strap broke and one of the tables flew in the air. I wasnt able to avoid it in traffic and it came about 12 inches through my windshield then blew over the top. Scary shite when it happens to youl.

Almost happened to me on 225 in Pasadena TX.

Luckily I saw it fall out of the hitch and the ball was bouncing up and down coming my way two lanes over but luckily it was only bouncing as high as about 1-2 ft off the ground. I had a brief second to think and decided to hit it straight on cause I didn’t know if anyone was beside me (5 o’clock traffic). Sounded like a washing machine with shoes in them under my truck for like 3 seconds. I thought my something was definitely gonna be messed up under my truck but somehow nothing was.

I’ve seen enough jerry-rigged crap in truck beds come loose and go flying that I either try not to be behind them or I give them a ton of distance.

Now I want to know how they stopped. I'm wondering if the driver maybe didn't die instantly and had a chance to stop before passing. Otherwise, if he died instantly the passenger would be stuck going highway speed with a driver who is completely impaired and no way to stop. shite is terrifying.

I had to dodge one on 190 in Covington. It was pretty scary. I was very lucky it missed the car and we were only doing 40 mph. Deputy sheriff saw it. He locked up brakes and picked it up. He then pulled the driver of the truck over. I always wondered how that interaction went.

Legit. 20 years ago a friend of mine had his spare tire come out from under his truck and damage an expensive car behind him. He had recently used the spare and didn't put it back correctly. He was charged with insecure load and his insurance wouldn't cover the damages.
