I no longer engage in conversation some of my ‘Leftist’ friends

Yes, I do have some Lefties in my circle. I’d bet you do also. Whenever I hear some of the insane shite that comes out of their mouths now, I just ignore them.
You can’t fix stupid. I’ve given up trying. This is what they remind me of….quacking geese.
Do you try to engage in a conversation with a quacking goose? No, of course not. And the reason is what they’re quacking about makes zero sense to a higher intelligence (me) and the quacking goose won’t comprehend or understand in any way shape or form what I’m saying.
So I gave up. It’s a pointless exercise. I still love some of them and have weeded out the stupid borderline woke ones. So…life goes on.

I’ve got a few cousins who are basically communists or super bleeding heart liberals. I just ignore them. Unfollow them on socials. Life is too short to deal with their bullshite and engaging them will not change their mind. I’ll let life smack them in the face and maybe they will see the light

I got off social media several years ago. I don't have very many guy friends who lean left, so minimal impacts there. Between those things it's eliminated nearly all of my political debate IRL.
I don't talk about politics with female friends who are lefty unless they practically beg me to - often with their husbands egging them on. It happens and they're pretty good sports about it and want the banter so no harm done yet. But they're lefty in the sense that they have a husband and kids and live wholesome lives - which is to say they're not THAT progressive.
We have effectively cut out some people who are more outspoken or aggrieved leftists. Easy for me without social media, more of a thing for my wife.

This is true. You aren't going to change their minds. It's a waste of time and life is too short to deal with people like that. They need to find out for themselves. When you continue to be shown you are wrong, eventually some catch on. Some never do and die after living a miserable, angry life (think Robert Deniro and Keith Olbermann). They are well on their way.

Funny, I feel this way about this site most of the time now that I've deepened my faith and trust in God.
Makes for a much more peaceful day and overall life.

Welp, they declared you, and me, and all of us who disagree with them, as enemies that must be destroyed, bankrupted, ostracized, and should exist without access to justice.

I was once eating lunch with a group from work. We were talking about people carrying concealed weapons.
One of the left leaning folks at the table said "the thought of people around me carrying a gun is terrifying".
I told her that I had a concealed carry permit and sometimes carried. She said "that's just really scary". I said "look to your left". There sat a cop with a bolstered pistol in plain view of everyone.
I told her "I was trained in the military and qualified expert with multiple weapons. I frequent the range often, have had more training than the cop, shoot competitions and likely have more practice than the cop. Despite this, you are scared of me with a gun".
She said "that's just how I feel".
At that point, I realized I was having a discussion based on logic and she was having a discussion based on feelings. This is true for any person on the left I've engaged with. That's why logic never works, because it's not about logic, it's about feelings.

My best friend is a libby but we do everything possible to avoid conversations about political/social issues. Luckily, we have known each other for almost 40yrs and we would not jeopardize our relationship so easily.
I think disagreeing on issues is perfectly fine, people have a right to their own opinions. However, the minute the disagreement turns nasty, aggressive, judgmental, bleeds over into other discussions, etc. then we have a problem. And I may need to reassess our relationship.
