One Louisiana lawmaker has put forward a bill this this week that looks to put an end to LSU football games being played during the day prior to the month of October. Every home game, through the month of September, should start at 6 p.m. or later, Rep. John "Big John" Illg, Jr. proposed in HCR13.

quote:

Ilgg's bill points to "health and safety reasons related to the heat during day games" as the inspiration for the legislation. "Due to the often extreme heat of September in this state and in the interest of protecting the health and safety of players, coaches, staff, and fans, it is appropriate that the Southeastern Conference take measures necessary to schedule September football games in the evening," Illg's bill reads.

I just hate getting the government involved in anything at this point. It never goes well. Unless SEC adopts it you could still find yourself playing away day games in September some years.

I agree. The heat is dangerous, and sometimes still is after even 6pm..but this is a start.

The hottest part of the day is between 3-4pm. Even 11am games are building to that heat. This isn't the worst idea.

I don’t hate this idea actually.
Day games early season can be rough.

I understand where you're coming from but it's probably why LSU has so many night games as a tradition. So in a way either the SEC doesn't care about health & safety or they don't care about tradition.

Arizona has a similar law

Whether they end day games in September or not, I have decided to end them. I don’t care who we are playing. Never again.

Not to pearl clutch but its genuinely dangerous

There was a reason tiger stadium was the first CFB team with lights in the stadium. Sure shite isn’t because Louisiana is richer than Michigan

The UCLA game last year should never happen again. It was completely dangerous for Tigah fans.

The UCLA game awful. First time in my life I left a game at halftime. Spent more time seeing people passing out in the corridors than watching the game looking for something cold to drink(not alcohol).

Pure nonsense. Cannot legislate SEC schedules.

Fantastic. Arizona does it. All schools that have that weather issue should start games no earlier than 6pm

Yeah, we've just been conditioned to air conditioning to the point where it's actually the right thing to do, we are not conditioned to handle that type of heat for a sustained period.

I mean I sat some brutal games in September back in the 80's and 90's and you just did it and got through it.

But man that UCLA game this year, thankfully I was on the West side and eventually got some shade, the folks on the East side were just baking in that sun.

LSU knows it's hot in September. Leave them the flexibility to schedule as needed, given TV and other scheduling needs. Keep the damned LA legislature out of it, or it will become as screwed up as everything else they turn their attention to.

If it passes, some nanny will want to amend it next year to ban intramurals or frat parties if the temperature is over 85. Those babies need protection too!

And if they're going to do it, why just LSU? It's hot in Ruston, Lafayette, etc. too.

The heat is dangerous to obese, dehydrated fans. Don't ever recall a player becoming ill from the heat, at any time. They practice in the heat during fall camp in August. They're used to it.

LSU started in playing night games in 1931 and reason was so that those who worked in the farms and in the fields could complete their work and still attend games. Nothing to do with weather.
