Musicians You Think Love To Just Play

The passing of Clem Burke is really bothering me and I got to thinking about it at work today.
What it comes down to is Clem loved to play. When Blondie wasn't out touring Burke would find work playing with other groups: The Ramones, The Romantics, The Go-Gos, Townshend, Dylan, The Eurythmics, Nancy Sinatra. You name it. He even played with a Blondie cover group called Bootleg Blondie.
I see artists like Don Henley who play for the money, or those who play to fluff up their ego, or people like Dylan or Willie Nelson who keep playing because they apparently have nothing else going on in their lives. Burke played for the joy of playing like we all did when we picked up an instrument. And for his unbridled joy of playing, I'll miss him and already do.
What other artists do you see as primarily playing for the love of the music?
RIP Clem

I would hope most of them.
I hate when a singer hate to sings their most famous songs.
I don’t really like hearing the over played out songs either But a lot of people go to concerts and only know those few singles. It’s sh!tty not to play them. IMO

I agree with everything you posted. You never hear of him being nothing but an attribute as an addition too.

I don't think that's fair or accurate.

Eddie would smile while playing.

Better question is
Who are the musicians who hate to play and don’t when they don’t have to?

I think McCartney loves playing. He was always trying to get the rest of the Beatles to do live shows. He would have
Wings just show up and play at small venues. Recently did that in NYC.

Keith Richards

Prince was definitely in this category. He was notorious for doing long shows, then after shows most places he played. Hell, he'd even open up Paisley Park for just a few dozen fans on short notice, and play for hours when he wasn't touring.

Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. He toured with Fleetwood Mac for a year or two. Since Tom’s passing he started Mike Campbell and The Dirty Knobs and it’s crazy how similar his voice is to Tom’s. I’m currently reading his book and it’s been a great read so far. He’s 75.
Slash is another one that likes to jam and play. He’s done numerous side projects and has admitted that he’s still getting better as a guitar player. In his book he talks about how much he enjoys being on the road and just playing shows.

Don Henley always looks like he resents being onstage.

McCartney. He is still recording and was still touring despite being a billionaire.

I think Rory Gallagher was one of those guys.

I think Robert Plant falls into that category. He's done stuff that's pretty much the opposite of LZ and just keeps trucking on

Vince Gill strikes me as this type of musician.
His own career and solo touring, the Eagles, Christmas shows with Amy Grant. Volunteering to play on tons of recordings for various artists in Nashville, a couple of one off tribute style albums for Bakersfield country.
