Why do deer get hit/killed by cars almost daily, but wild pigs never do?

I think it's safe to say wild pigs are a major problem, but how do wild pigs not suffer the same fate as the deer?

Pigs are smarter then deer, and pigs like rooting in softer places, where deer like eating the fresh green grass by the road that gets plenty sunlight and stays mowed.

Well obviously they do get hit from time to time and boy can they do some damage to the front of a car. But you're right, they are pretty good about staying off the roads.

There are also a lot more deer than pigs if I had to guess. That has something to do with it but deer still get run over way more frequently.

Pigs don't sprint across the road like it's an olympic sport.

Hope you never hit a pig. Buddy got one going down hwy 23 close to Myrtle grove and it focked his truck up. He tried to save the meat but it was a 300 lb boar that stunk like shite

Food

Deer will eat closer to roads when their browse is low. Hogs don’t typically eat what’s beside the road.

However, I had several hogs get killed on the highway on the land I own. It’s great for me, it ran the ones still alive back into the bottoms

They don’t swim well though, that’s how they eventually got them under control at my old camp. It flooded really bad a few years in a row and the deer all swam out to higher ground but they found thousands upon thousands of dead pigs.

Don’t worry Miss State and Auburn are in a race to develop a pig only poison that I understand will be available soon

I saw an entire sounder spread all over hwy 23 just past Buras. Had to be at least 8 piglets.

Feral pigs and house cats will be the last 2 remaining mammals on this planet. Can’t stop what’s coming.

I’ll see a few that have been hit/killed, when heading down to S. Tx. A buddy of mine has a cage to trap them, he sets it up. Baits it, has a camera set up, drops the trap. Done.

I've seen them rooting in the ditches along I-49 between Alexandria and Opelousas, especially in the summer when the swamp gets dry. One afternoon about a 400lb boar kept getting mad at the passing cars and started trying to charge them. He would have totaled a little car.

For the first time, I saw more dead pigs than deer on the side of the road between Lucedale, Ms and Chatom, Al. One place it looked like an 18 wheeler must have hit 8 grown pigs. Carnage everywhere.

As someone that runs hog traps, all traps do is educate the hogs. You never catch them all. It is never done. You just hope you scare/bother them enough that the rest of them move somewhere else.

Was heading out to my camp when a sow and her piglets ran out in front of me. Avoided all but the last one, sorry little piggy. Just glad the momma was out front.

When they say, this little piggy went to the market, it didn’t go shopping. It went to the slaughter house!
