Guerrero is still overpaid. He’s not a $400 million much less $500 million player. If you’re going to get that money as a 1B/DH type from day one, you better have the bat of Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, or Juan Soto and Guerrero is not even close to that.

That is the point of the other post. He's not being paid $500 million. He's being paid about $223 million.

his "canadian" income would be 250MM

Yep it’s pretty rough when you can’t wait for a west coast road trip to Commie-Fornia to save on taxes

Canadian money is worth 70 cents on the American dollar.

What would that look like in US Sates (CA/TX/FL vs Others)?
Posted on 4/7/25 at 9:22 am to OleVaught14
When Canada becomes part of US, it won’t matter.

Canada still fuks you harder than Cali, but not by much. No state income tax in the US would net him $70M more...Cash.

Is his contract in CAD or US dollars?

I think it would have to be USD for cap reasons.

Vlad Sr made $175 million for his career

Did I read that right? 14 years? Does he strike you as a player who's profile will age well?
I mean, he's not fast and he's at best a mediocre fielder, so if that bat starts regressing in the early to mid-30's which it almost certainly will....you are going to be paying for around 7 years of meh production for which no one will take on in a trade of any kind.
Just don't get 14 year contracts even for guys who do profile to age well....IMHO Vlad does not.

For the 81 games played in Toronto:
He’ll owe $8,223,384 USD annually
$123,350,760 USD over the life of the contract
At current tax rates. This includes federal income tax and Ontario provincial taxes.

Hopefully, it's front-loaded

Just heard his signing bonus is $325M. MLB your signing bonus is taxed at your place of residence . He is a resident of Florida.
I’m not saying this is true, just what an ex MLB exec is saying.
