Going to be in Florence for 6 days in late May/Early June.

I have done lots of homework but admittedly feel a little overwhelmed/underprepared in terms of Itenerary and spots to hit.

Thanks in advance.

Uffizi Gallery (the substantially better of the two museums)
Accademia Gallery to see David
Duomo (do a Dome Tour)

restaurants:

Il Santo Bevitore
Vini E Vecchi Sapori
Osteria dell'Enoteca
Cibreo
All'Antico Vinaio (for the famous sandwich for lunch)

There are many great restaurants in Florence so hard to go wrong. Definitely get Florentine steak with one meal (dell'Enoteca), but remember you canNOT choose how you want it cooked. It comes one way (rare), and they will not accommodate anything else so don't ask.

Trattoria de' Pitti had the best lasagna I've ever had.

I'll second this. We just got on trip advisor and would see if anyone had an open reservation that night and boom we went. Did not have a bad meal at all.

I personally don't recommend this strategy its a good way to get suckered into tourist traps.

I'd have a reservation at least 4 of the 6 nights but that is just me. What I intended to mean was there are many many great restaurants. Not just to choose that day

Trattoria Dall'Oste for the Pasta salsiccia, burrata e tartufo and the Bistecca alla Fiorentina “Chianina”.

There's a chocolate store across the street called Nino and Friends. A bunch of different samples and some very interesting stuff. I highly recommend both.

We try to keep our trips (outside of a few meals and tours) pretty spontaneous.

Trattoria Sostanza

The butter chicken dish (not Indian) is alledged to be the best chicken dish in the world. I loved it. Reservations required

12:30-2 and 7:30-9:45 are the hours..

We didn't do the Dome Tour, but I wouldn't bother waiting in the long line to see in the inside of the church itself. Pretty underwhelming...probably the least impressive church I saw in Italy.

Visit the Basilica di Santa Croce. Michelangelo and Galileo are buried inside.

Piazzale Michelangelo is a must. Go at dusk, the views are breathtaking.

We couldn’t be more opposite than this. My wife’s itinerary literally has hours set aside for “free time”

Thank you all for the recs. I think we’re going to go south to Capri for a couple days after Florence.

Should I do Trenitalia to Naples and try to find a ferry from somewhere to Capri?

That’s a pretty far trek.

Do the trip of your dreams but I can give a similar option much closer to Florence:

Cinque Terre

Yeah.
I would rate the Amalfi Coast ahead of the Cinque Terre by at least a slight margin, but if you just have a couple of days after Florence I would opt for the CT. We did the CT as a day trip from Florence. We hiked about half of it and went to all 5 villages. The scenery was gorgeous.

To answer your question, train/ferry is the way to go but it takes a long time.

Capri was fine but I like Positano much better.

Spend 1-2 nights in Florence and then spent the rest of the trip in: Volterra, Siena, Orvieto, and Todi. Way less tourists and a lot more authentic.

We went to Trattoria Dall'Oste and it was first rate. I am saying that as a steakhouse person.

Ordered the giant Florentine steak and it was an experience. I am a big eater and me and the lady couldn't finish half. Was flying out the next day and felt like a criminal sending half back to be tossed out. I told the server he should take it home and the guy asked if I was serious and that he would be super happy to have it. It just felt wrong to throw away that fabulous piece of cow.

Ill second this if it hasnt been done so already. Stopped by here out last night after seeing lines, so worth it. Wish we would have stopped earlier in the trip.

Other very good sandwich spots

Antica Porchetteria Granieri 1926 - porchetta get the spicy sauce.
L’Girona de Giotti - cramped but delicious.
‘Ino- bit more “modern” but equally as good.

Also there is an Alla’Antico in the train station (2 of them actually) lesser crowds.

Gellateria della passa and cantina del Gelato

Dalla Lola also very good.

Did an early morning tour of the Accademia and Santa Maria del Fiore tour through one of the tour companies. Was tremendous.

Went to Santa Isabella for lunch. It is a two star Michelin. It made the one star in Rome look like McDonalds. It was $400 though.
