Community Coffee shrinkflation at Costco

Went to Costco here in Lafayette last week and was angry to see Community now is selling 40oz bags instead of 46oz that they have been selling for the past 7 or so years I've been shopping there.
Paid $17.99 for 40oz, or $0.44/oz. Paid $14.99 for 46 oz, or $0.32/oz in 2021. Am I irrationally angry about this? My wife and I go through 46oz roughly every 3 weeks.

So $6 for two people to drink coffee for 7 days straight?

Still 46 oz at Sam’s, but the price just went up from $18.99 to $22.98 last time I bought a bag. It takes me about 2 months to go through a bag, so my cost per pot isn’t quite as high as yours, but it’s still a big jump

shite, the little 12 Oz package was being advertised at Rouses for $9.20 a few weeks ago. I was thinking that was $5.99 not long ago.

I buy the 3lb can of Kirkland Colombian grounds and the price went from 13.99 to 17.99 in the last month, and 11.99 to 13.99 since 2021.
I'm not happy.

The groceries often put it on sale for $5.99. I’ll buy a couple to hold until next sale. Walmart does not put on sale.

Green coffee is at an all-time high, you haven't se the last of the price increases.

Don’t blame Community. Chain groceries force processors to lower volume so they can have lower prices on the shelf.

He said he is paying $3 more for less product, unless I read wrong.

I know. It would be even more if they didn’t reduce the product volume. Costco doesn’t want that high of a price on the shelf.

If you're angry about the cost of coffee you should probably stop drinking it

I’m more angry that it’s less product than it’s more per ounce. We brew a lot of coffee between the two of us…will have to purchase it more frequently now.

Just ratchet it down to "miffed."
There's nothing you can do about it.
Andy Rooney did a segment on this business practice of paying more and getting less on 60 Minutes about 30 years ago.

Still about a 24% value vs Walmart. Makes sense that costco wants to keep the retail below $20.

I drink CDM Coffee & Chicory in the big yellow can. Just a couple years ago their large 39 oz. can was in the $12 range. Now the can is 34.5 oz. and costs in the $17+ range depending on where you buy it.
I can remember when CDM came in 1 lb. bags and 3 lb. cans and was not happy about them dropping the weight to 13 oz. for the bags and 39 oz. for the can.
Still, a bargain when compared to what idiots will spend every time they set foot in one of those "Coffee Shops" and pluck down $5 or more for a cup of coffee.

I bought Peet's last week at Kroger. It was a 10oz bag. I think they used to be 12 oz like everybody else. 16oz I thought used to be the standard 5 or so years ago.

1 year ago, Green coffee was $197.75/lb.
Today, Green coffee is $384.52/lb.
It's actually down from a high of $433 back in February. When the cost of raw material goes up for manufacturers, the prices per volume will increase. Some places will see the same packaging increase in cost, some will see the volume decrease at the same cost, some will see both.
Sorry you didn't think to buy 2 of the smaller packages on your last visit. Would've saved you the headache of creating this thread.

I typically buy whatever Publix has as a BoGo sale. Seems like Community is once a month, but they also do it with Seattle's Best, Dunkin, McDonalds etc.

This is not just a Community Coffee issue. It's many products. My Dad and I were talking about the deodorant that he buys. Now it's smailler(ozs.) and it costs a dollar more.
