Well, my 12yo pitched one of my combos overboard yesterday and I wasn't able to recover it. Pretty funny watching his pawpaw give him a hard time. Good memories.

Anyway.... it was a ten year old Daiwa coastal inshore reel on a st. Croix rod. Pretty good trout slayer being that I only sprayed it off with the hose after each use.

Anyone own the new Daiwa? Looking for a replacement that will chunk a thunder chicken and have the finess for just a jighead. Tinybalsagna is trying to convince me that he needs a new combo as well. The balsagnthiskid.

Can’t speak to daiwa but I love my Lews reels. Tournament lite lfs is my go-to for most set ups

New Penn Presidents are great; the old ones are too.

Second the coastals. I have all daiwa reels and have mostly TWS tatulas. Daiwa makes quality spinning reels too.

Also recommend the daiwa coastal.
Slap that on a Waterloo rod of your choice and that’s a fine combo

I’ll see if I can dig up the thread, but Daiwa just dropped a new model of the coastal and the older model has a pretty good sale on this one website.

Daiwa Coastal previous model sale
Waterloo Salinity sale

That specific Daiwa model has gotten a ton of usage and great reviews from some legit wade fishing guides in south Texas. If it’s good enough for those guys, it’s good enough for me, and apparently good enough for our other OB brothern.

In my opinion the Waterloo salinity is the best bang for your buck inshore rod. At $100 it’s a damn good pick up

Now I will admit these colors don’t go together too well, but for $260 before taxes and shipping that’s a pretty damn good combo

I'd buy the older one. The new one may function fine, but per the specs they actually removed some bearings (presumably using nylon bushings) in the "new" Coastal. They went from 7+1 to 4+1. I'd love to hear their reasoning, but it's hard to come up with one besides $$.

I prefer my shimano tranx 150 over my daiwa coastal. Neither has given me any problems, but I've had the tranx longer and it has held up well in the salt. It's also a $50 cheaper than the daiwa. As for a rod, you can't go wrong sticking with st croix if you remember the specs on the one you just lost.

I have a barely used Daiwa SV TW 70 in 6.3 gear ratio with a Temple Fork Outfitters Tactical Inshore 6’9” ML I would sell you for a really good price. It’s awesome for throwing 1/8 to 5/16 oz lures. I bought a Metanium & it ended up being suitable for throwing light lures, so I really don’t need this one anymore.

From what you said, I take it you’re a Daiwa guy. They make a fine reel. I would take a look at the Shimano SLX also. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, especially at that price point

Shimano Stradic 3000 for trout/small reds or 4000 for bigger reds and up is an amazing reel. Very top tier drag and construction that will not corrode. About double the price of an entry level reel but worth it considering how long they last, I have had mine for several years and they are just perfect still.

If you want a good deal on the best equipment, you should take a look at the Japanese Domestic Market reels. Same models as the American versions (mostly) at a much cheaper price

I got mine from Digitaka. There are numerous others, just search “JDM fishing” online. I got the JDM Shimano Bantam for $220 ($360 US cost) delivered to my doorstep exactly four days after placing the order.

I find it amazing that I can get an item shipped at no cost from Japan in four days, but sending that same item to Arkansas via USPS costs $10 and takes over a week

Digitaka

Digitaka is legit. I've ordered a reel from them, and random lures and other stuff from Tackle Warehouse on the same day before and had the reel from Japan at my door several days before the order from California arrived.

The first time I was thinking this must be too good to be true but Ive had three good experiences with them. Their black friday deal had Stradics 20% off on top of the currency savings.
