Driving through there on Monday, what's the consensus BBQ hierarchy these days?

Lots of good options in that area. I've always preferred Smitty's Market.

Terry Blacks BBQ

Synopsis of the Black family feud. Blacks BBQ is the original Family BBQ. Terry Blacks BBQ is one of the brothers. He has since been growing his BBQ into Waco, DFW.

I'm told that Terry Blacks buys 25% of the national supply of Prime Brisket.

Which Blacks do you prefer? I've been to the one in Austin on Guadalupe.

I actually haven't been to either. I just know some of the inside baseball of the family dust up. Somebody told me Terry Blacks is better than the original Blacks BBQ.

The 'ol skool BBQ joints in Lockhart are:
Kreuz Market
Smitty's
Blacks

The new BBQ joints in town are:
Barbs
Terry Black's

Haven't been to Lockhart in like a decade and have never been to Barbs. As for the others. Terry Black's in Austin is very good. It's impressive that they maintain the quality of product for the volume they push through.

For the others, I thought Blacks and Kreuz were better than Smittys. All solid. Lot of BBQ history among them. Worth visiting for nostalgia's sake.

I like Smittys…

Something about standing next to an open fire while you order what meat you want.

Don’t sleep on the turkey…. Brisket is always on point.

Smitty’s has the best brisket I have ever eaten.

Black’s does very good beef ribs.

Kreuz….shoulder clod, jalapeño cheese sausage, turkey, crackers and bread…side of sauerkraut, block of cheese, avocado…free fresh salsa…be sure to get the banana pudding…seriously the best banana pudding in Texas I’m convinced.

Kreuz jalapeño cheese sausage is some fine stuff. I had some great beef ribs at Black's.
