New Orleans trying to get an NHL team?

If tweet fails to load, click here. Seeing the governor attached to this rather than a potential ownership group, I'm not sure how much legs this would have. Has anyone heard much about this? I didn't see much useful info in the MSB thread. I bring it up on the Pels board because would the Benson Empire be the potential owners? Whether Benson is involved or not, it seems like this would impact getting a new Arena vs. an SKC remodel.

this would be such a disaster imo. I'm suprised it's even being entertained.

Makes no sense. Atlanta I would understand as they have some history with the Thrashers. Nola does not have the fan base for it.

They are looking for someone to partner with Pelicans on a new Arena. The revenue for these teams are all TV and Sponsorships, not attendance.

I think the guy who owns the minor league team in Monroe is involved. I talked with him at a party last month and he was all in on a New Orleans team, while kind of bashing the NBA...

I mean it’s makes sense for a financial statement for the NHL. It’s a similar rationale for Las Vegas having so many sports teams now. New Orleans is great for hosting major events like all star games. So, the NHL might want to potentially get in on that.

No bigger disaster than the Hornets/Pelicans franchise, and actually if this ushers the pelicans franchise out of NOLA then I'm onboard.

I read somewhere that Pels lease runs out in 2029
without a new arena I can see her selling the team

Don’t see it happening. Not enough ho hockey fans or $. And do you think they’ll evict the Pelicans? Nahhh

I’d go purely because the closest hockey team to me would be in Nashville, but I don’t see it really catching on. Where would they even put a new arena?

Will the NHL players be hurt all the time?

It wouldn’t succeed here but it would be so fricking awesome if it did.

As long as benson and ochsner isn't involved I'll allow it

I’m actually starting to think the NHL has a brighter future than the NBA. The NBA is on an accelerated decline at this point
