I let them in my house once. It felt like an Eastern Orthodox Easter service it took me so long to get them out. Old sweet black ladies. That’s all I have. They were amazing when I answered their initial questions in Hebrew. I was mostly making it up.

Johnny Carson once said that standing in a doorway is recommended during earthquakes. When the big one hits the only people left will be Fuller Brush salesmen and Jehovahs Witness.

I’m mostly joking. But they did ask, “Do you know God has a name?”

I got that one right.

Are they the ones who wear black slacks, white shirt with black tie with a backpack and ride their bicycles around going door to door?

Or is that the Mormons?

OP, I have never attended one of their services, but I won't say it is "odd" that you find it interesting. The little old ladies advertising their cult always seem nice.

In college I used to have a job where one of the supervisors was a Jehovah's Witness. He and his wife had not spoken to their only child, a son, in many years. Why? Because when he grew up he told them he didn't believe in the JW religion and married a girl and started his own life. I thought that was really tragic. Their practice of "shunning" is barbaric, but many cults do this (Scientology has something similar). It's their way to force as many people to stay in as humanly possible.

And I asked, what do you want to talk about? They answered, we don’t know. We have never got this far before.

An oldie but goodie.

Yes, I have. I was trying to hook up with this JW chick before I realized how cultish they are. She invited me to the Kingdom Hall for a service, so I went.

The service itself wasn’t that bad. It was led by one of their “elders”, had basically a theme of the service and members were encouraged to stand up and read passages or answer questions posed by the elder. It don’t seem nuts at all.

The thing about JW’s: it would probably be a very popular sect if they’d drop the cultish shite, stop thinking we are in “the end days” and forget their ridiculous interpretation of Revelations. They do and believe some things the right way, but the crazy stuff nullifies all of it in spades.

I remember in high school, we had accepted some pamphlet from them, and I was reading it while taking a poop. They had some ridiculous quote in there from scripture- the quote was literally a sentence fragment, like "GO YE" or something like that. The pamphlet said this two-word phrase 'proves' the JW church was right about some complicated area of religious doctrine, that they went on to explain for 2 or 3 pages. Even as a dumb teenager taking a dump I could see that was ridiculous, even giving allowance for the fact that we're talking about religion here so some tolerance for ridiculousness has to be built in.

They have a lot of churches on frontage roads that look like half a football sticking out of the ground.

My dad dipped his toes in it when I was a kid. They would come over and read with my brothers and I. I still remember them saying we won't be celebrating any holidays and birthdays. As a kid, the first thing I thought was "no gifts for my bday? frick that." and that was the end of that
