A reality check on this stock market decline

Everyone needs to calm down, the media is very good at getting everyone upset. A simple Chat GPT inquiry shows that market corrections happen ALL THE TIME!
We are today at the level of September 12, 2024, a date where everyone was ecstatic about the market returns and would have not have been surprised at that time if there were a correction. Instead, the market went up another 12% before now correcting.
This is all normal…
The time to worry is when we go into a Bear Market of -20% to -40% and does not recover for several years. Bear markets are caused by prolonged recessions, a crisis event such as the 2008 financial crisis or a significant geopolitical event.
We are not in a crisis event, this is a normal correction to a market that advanced too rapidly.
Year Peak Date Trough Date Decline (%)
2010 Apr 23 Jul 2 -16.0%
2011 Apr 29 Oct 3 -19.4%
2015 May 21 Aug 25 -12.4%
2016 Nov 3 Feb 11 -13.3%
2018 Jan 26 Feb 8 -10.2%
2018 Sep 20 Dec 24 -19.8%
2020 Feb 19 Mar 23 -33.9% (COVID-19 Crash)
2022 Jan 3 Oct 12 -25.4% (Bear Market)
2023 Jul 27 Oct 27 -10.3%

I think the gripe I have is that it didn’t have to be this way. This was forced and that’s what’s frustrating

i agree. I would dump as much as I had if i had it. These are bargain prices.

Trump could have come in and sat on an economy and stock market that was humming along, instead he’s tanked it 10+% in 4 weeks.
Such a great business man (con-man)he is.

By what measure? Certainly not P/E
I dont think sky is falling either, we are just back to prices from past Fall. Was that also a bargain? That's why I dont sit on sideline waiting.

Yep, whistling past the graveyard is always a sound strategy.

I'm consistently buying every day its down
Have some cash on the side and 20yrs from needing the money, so let the decline continue.

Yeah, even after this correction stocks are still overvalued based on average historical valuations.

This is normal..? yes you have declines based on domestics and global economics or events..yes you have pullbacks..
No this is not any of those as op said

Why are you buying everyday if you think the decline will continue? Typically I don’t buy things today if I think I can get a better price tomorrow.

This post is the very embodiment of quarterly profit over long term thinking, the favorite whipping boy topic of comparing American companies to all others around the world.
We are 30 years past due for a trade reset with the rest of the world. It is also a decade past time for Canada and Mexico to do a better job with border control and drug issues. This is short term pain for long term gain.

AI responses next year are going to be wild. Chatbots just need a chance to scrape the internet for all the newfound AI responses everyone now shares on social media.

All true and I'd call the beginning of a tariff war a crisis event if that's what this is.
