Subscription Fatigue

It's all so tiresome. Why does it seem every app, service, software includes subscription base pay plans. Yes, I understand that it is more profitable to the service's shareholders. Nonetheless, subscriptions have turned once free or pay once things into things requiring years long payments. The smart TV remote app that was $2 yesterday is now $2.99/month or $22.99/ year. end rant.
What other things can you think of that make no sense being subscription based? (please leave wife/mothers/daughters out of this discussion)

A lot of companies and people would rather have consistent returns than bigger one time payments. 2 dollars today is 99.999999% of the time better than 2 dollars next month.

$2.99/month just to HAVE an icloud email is some bs

Majority of it doesn't make sense for the consumer.
The ones that really get my hackles up though are car-based subscription add-ons. That shite makes me see red.

Man they should just combine all the channels and apps together and bundle it and charge monthly for it. They could call it some random name, like "cable."

You can't even buy software anymore
You are rented everything. It's like $100+ a year for a Photoshop license
shite even walmart has a sub system now

I don’t have Facebook but used to be able to at least check public pages for various groups or companies or marketplace. Now it blocks you out after a few seconds and asks you to sign in.
I’m not committing to the Facebook for that so slowly starting to feel out of local group/hobby activity postings. The user/password notepad file on my desktop is already too long to track anymore.
Who pays for a damn TV remote? I use the one that comes with the TV or Roku.

You've been too busy commuting to the office and canoodling at the coffee machine to learn how to use a password vault.
Most of the social media companies limit non authenticated access {to track you} because it's one of their ways to {track you} prevent bots from scraping their content as well as avoiding deep DDoS attacks {and to track you.}

Because people are stupid enough to pay them.
I have 0 subscriptions, I refuse to keep paying and paying. If you want to sell it to me, fine. If you want to rent it to me, frick off.

When did you stop paying for the newspaper?
As much as I love being black and white, the calculus isn't hard. Some BS iPad game I want to play on flights that isn't available to straight out purchase? I'll buy one that's three years old.
$9 a year for weather data for my sprinkler controller, which will save me $125 a month between March and October (I'm not kidding,) is an easy math problem even an Alabama fan could figure out.

for apps, blame apple. costs $99/year to keep your app on the app store

My Eight Sleep autopilot app is like $15 / mo. It's a remote control app on my phone. LeSigh

I pay $7000/per year in software subscriptions when I used to be able to just buy the software and "own" it. Awesome! I can't wait to retire from this dogchit.

Yes, it is frustrating that in 2014 when I bought my Tundra, the alexa app and weather map were "free for life." Well guess what? Two years ago the "updated the software" to where Alexa is no longer included. Last weekend coming back from a road trip, the weather map now requires me to sign up for an account. In other words, "pay up".

I stopped delivery of the Advocate back in 1999. Stopped the digital subscription last year, it just wasn't worth it. That was the only subscription I had.

Yeah, I don't do that either. But then, I live in south Louisiana. Not much need to water grass.

the one that pisses me off the most is that alot of auto companies have now moved remote start, etc to an app on your phone and it requires and annual subscription. I paid for that function when I bought the damn car. My wifes Volvo was like 250 for the app subscription.

Just don't subscribe.
I don't think I have one subscription except for a magazine subscription.
