Love a random boomer post recalling things from 1985 for the group.

Do weights on legs and wrists do anything when walking?
I’d think the resistance would do wonders.

Never researched it at all. Does it work?

I feel like there was a jumping program 20 years ago…. back in the day…. and this was a big piece of it.

Sure, its not a terrible way to add a little resistance if the weight is kept pretty low

I had ankle weights and used them for basketball to improve quickness and jumping. I’m white so…….. Anyway, it helped from a mental standpoint at least.

I have no experience with them. But it seems like something that would tear up my knees.

I had some of those ‘strength shoes’ and they actually worked. Improved my vertical considerably between freshman and Sophomore year.

I had those strength shoes also in 8th/9th grade but hard to say how much they helped versus natural development at that age.

One guy at my middle school wore ankle weights to school and he later played some college basketball. He could dunk easily by then but was also about 6’2 and black with an athletic build.

Same here. I went from a 24" to 32". I thought they worked pretty well.

I remember having ankle weights as a kid and also remember hearing that they weren’t very good for the ankles hips and knees. Just do like Herschel did and get a harness to drag tires around your yard.

I wore them when I was in 7th grade. Before then, I was probably the 20th fastest kid in my class. After wearing them for a few months, I ran the 2nd fastest 50 and the fastest 600 in my class and the coach told me to come run track. I ended up setting a school record for the 1320 (no mile run in Jr. High) in the 8th grade.
