Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg being pressured to sell team

On a side note, Goodell...

Though a sale is not imminent, Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg is being pressured to sell his team by several people in the league, including MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, according to The Athletic’s Evan Drellich.
Manfred and “some other owners” are reportedly pressuring Sternberg to sell the franchise, though it’s unclear who else is involved or how hard they are pressuring him. While a sale of the team is not close, there are reportedly several groups with interest in purchasing the team, including the family of Edward DeBartolo Jr.
The pressure to sell the team comes amid Sternberg’s renewed quest to find a new stadium, which is something he has been doing for nearly two decades now. Sternberg and local officials in St. Petersburg have been working toward a $1.3 billion proposal for a new stadium after Tropicana Field was destroyed by Hurricane Milton last year. That has forced the Rays to play home games at the New York Yankees’ minor-league complex this season.
The stadium proposal appears to have hit several roadblocks amid a funding dispute between the team and the city. It’s unclear if it will get done, and there is a March 31 deadline in place for several aspects of that plan.

Even though a sale of the team seems far off, MLB reportedly does not want the Rays to move out of the Tampa Bay area market, whether that is under Sternberg’s watch or a new ownership group. MLB believes the region can support the franchise, per the report, and it does not want to give up a potential expansion city to move the Rays.
MLB did not comment on The Athletic's report Sunday night, and Sternberg did not confirm anything. While the organization's future appears murky, it appears that calls for a new ownership group to take over will only increase if the current stadium deal falls apart later this month.

How much better would this franchise be if they relocated to Nashville?

Or just to a real stadium with an ownership group that gave a shite

Move the stadium to Tampa and out of St. Pete. Problem partially solved.

I would love that. Any time I've had to make that drive to the Trop, truly hated it.

I saw one of the prospective owners wanted to honor the deal that was in place with St Pete which why this is happening. I don’t know shite about the Tampa area really but I remember it seemed like pulling teeth to get a stadium deal done there between this owner and the local government

Supposedly they have billions that they want to put into the organization as well. Would be a huge win for baseball if that comes together
Then we can move onto expansion
Then we can move onto expansion

I mean, if you live in the Tampa Bay Area or just south of Tampa Bay then St. Pete is the most logical place for a pro sports stadium.
St. Pete can draw from Clearwater, Gulfport, Pinellas Park, Palm Harbor, Tampa, Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Bradenton, Parrish, Palmetto, Sarasota, and Tampa.
Tampa makes it very difficult for those in Bradenton/Parrish/Palmetto/Sarasota to get there.
Downtown St. Pete is also pretty awesome. Is it on par with South Tampa/Ybor? Probably not. But it has come a long, long way.
Also, land is much cheaper in St. Pete than in Tampa.

As far as I where I would prefer to spend my time, I much prefer to be in St Pete over Tampa. Most people I know choose to go to St Pete.
A stadium could work there; but I get the rationale for moving it over to Tampa as well.

They’re one of the best-run teams in the league that punches far, far above their weight for how cheap Sternberg is. Moving doesn’t inherently unlock anything, changing owners and getting the new stadium does

I’m interested in seeing how many people they draw to Steinbrenner Field. They finally got their Tampa location and even though it only seats 11,000 that’s way more than they were drawing to the Trop. (Paid attendance is not actual attendance)

Are they going to pressure the A's, too?

Just build a stadium in Orlando. It's a better draw than Tampa/St Pete
