Rank your Top 10 LSU football teams of all time

1. 2019 obviously
2. 2011 (This team demolished everyone it faced, and if Ok St had gone instead of Bama, it would've been talked about as one of the greatest teams of all time. I think this team beats 03 and 07. The offenses of 03 and 07 would not have put up over 17 points on 2011. '11 had the same amount or fewer losses than '03 and '07. Just had to play Bama twice. Without a doubt, they would've beat OK State by 20 points or more.)
3. 2003
4. 2007
5. 2006
6. 2005
7. 2012 (If LSU holds onto the W vs Bama, they would've gone to SECG vs UGA, a W there then the Nati and for sure would've beat ND. One play changed that, although still would've had to beat UGA.).
8. 2018 (should've been 11-2. Texas A&M fumbled in OT, caught in flats, firm possession, 2 steps, blown up by D White or Delpit, LSU picked it up, game over. Perfect example of a ref being weak minded and letting fear of 105,000 yelling at you influence your call.)
9. 2023 (I think a very quiet top 5 offense of all time in college football along with 2019. Yes, all time. Ranked 1st in most categories on offense. JD set an all time FBS passer rating record and YPA (on min like 200 pass attempts). There's been like 10,000+ QB seasons in FBS history. He had multiple stats that finished 1st of 10,000+. 208 passer rating, 11.7 yards per attempt, and 8.6 yards per carry, I challenge someone to find a QB with better numbers than that. You won't find one. Lamar wasn't even close to those numbers at Louisville. JD5 is a top 7 NFL QB today. BTJ and Malik finished top 10 in NFL WR yards. Stout OL. Haven't had an elite RB in a while, maybe Durham and Berry change that. Yes the defense sucked horribly, but the offense was phenomenal.)
10. 2001
I don't know much about pre 2000 teams or really pre-2011, and there probably was a team or two that makes the top 10 pre 2000, but the program as a whole is a lot better now than then. I have a hard time getting on board with early teams like 1958 because although they were relatively elite teams at the time, they would lose by 40+ points against a team today. Game is just very different.
I hope BK can get this program back to the 2001 to 2012 years. I feel I named way more from then than recent.

Thank god for 2019 cause 2011 was bitter arse pill to swallow for all those years.
I think we all know there is no team ever to date that could have stopped Joe and company.
We would have boat raced 2001 Miami and that to me is more indicative of how much humans evolve over time.
I don’t think we will see another team that could beat that 2019 squad for 10-20 years or so, and that will be based on the athletes by then.
Science is moving faster than ever and the athletes are getting top notch treatment.

2006 was a better team than 2007

Even though it was before most of our times, you can’t leave off an undefeated 1958 National championship team off the Top 10 list.

A competent coach goes undefeated in 87.

To be fair... it would take a metrics Guru a lot of time and effort to make an accurate assessment. LSU had some Great teams in the 80s.... hard to win a Natty then with Nebraska et al. Recruiting was more Regional then for most schools, so it was very difficult to go undefeated vs Neb Miami FlaSt Notre Dame Ohio St etc... I believe at least 2 of these teams might be able to Crack the top 10

That TJ Yeldon screen is still a depressing thought 12 years later

We had better overall results in 2010 than 2012, and beat Alabama and ripped the pre-sec Aggies. And won three games on pure luck: vs NC (no flag for PI on last play), vs Tennessee (*gasp*) and that lucky bounce on a fourth down pitchout @ Florida.

But what about the "purple poison" the NCAA imposed back in the 1980's?
Posted on 3/8/25 at 8:16 am to Saunson69
1987 deserves a mention here. 10-1-1 finished ranked #5 if I remember correctly

2019
2003
2006
2011
2007
2005
2012
1996
2001
2022
Gave 2006 the nod over 11 because of superior QB play and the defense wasn’t that far off from 11.
2001 and 2022 get a shout for winning the division.
The likes of 2010 and 18 were in the mix but the offense (especially 2010) was a deciding factor.
Edit- im 39 so based it off teams i have seen. Obvious shoutouts to 58 and 08.

Yep, I'll bet in 30 years, a 4.3 40 will be slightly above average

There was no good reason we tied an underdog Ohio State at home, or lost to a big underdog Alabama at home in 1987-- other than that the NCAA insisted that we wear that unlucky uniform for home games.

How on earth is 2011 barely on your list? That was the most dominant team in all 3 phases of football we've had. 2019 was the offense we never could have dreamed of, but gave up tons of points 2/3, of the year. Obviously that season and teams they beat are clear #1, but 2011 at 10 is offensive.
2011 destroyed everyone except bama, which went 1-1 agaiant and bama was historically good on defense as well.
