The New Orleans Mayoral race is adding another name. Former Orleans Parish 911 Communications Director Tyrell Morris tells WDSU he's running to become the next Mayor of New Orleans. "Over the last year or so, and last couple of weeks, speaking with my family, and deep prayer, it has become clear to me that this is my time to lead the city", said Morris.

As Morris tries to make his case to voters, he's also dealing with another case, in court. The former OPCD Director is facing allegations of malfeasance in office, false impersonation of a peace officer, insurance fraud, and second-degree injuring of public records. The charges stem from a WDSU investigation into a car accident Morris was involved in back in 2023. and why Morris never filed a police report, whether he followed appropriate policies, and whether he potentially altered documents given to WDSU for personal gain. Morris later resigned from his post -- and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
