If you hate McMahon for any reason to the point you can't carry on a focused conversation, please stay out of this thread.

This year has been rough. Reed got hurt and the team is limping to the finish line. However, we have a really good group of freshmen and Sophomores for next year.

Our front court looks solid. Collins, Robert Miller, and Chest could make a great rotation at the 4/5. If Reed is healthy we will have more than enough to compete. If the freshman Gilhool can provide anything

... then we won't need more up front.

At guard, we could have a great rotation with Vyctorius Miller at 6'5", Curtis Givens at 6'3", and Mike Williams at 6'3". CG3 i believe will be a solid, not great, 3 point shooter. He already has great handles and great passing skills. Obviously if VJ and CG3 add some muscle it would go a long way in the SEC. We have 2 talented freshmen coming in at PG and SG, so that should round out the group.

Small forward seems to be the biggest need. Unless Ward comes back having lifted his way into 20 pounds of extra muscle, we will need a lengthy veteran here in the portal.

The 2nd priority in the portal is likely a veteran point guard. Obviously I would love to see Givens and Williams make that a non issue.

Respectfully any positivity based on the roster is misplaced. You should have no confidence that any of those players will make it back to next season.

You are missing the point of where the modern game has gone if you start trying to build optimism for next year on a roster that may not even exist. The portal and immediate playing time have destroyed any stability that might have been.Players will go and new ones will arrive every year from now on. Just the way it is.

We need more shooters. Our three-point shooting is horrendous

You need a true pg in the 6’3” range who can shoot above 35% from 3 and you need 2 wings that can shoot at or above 38% from 3. If they were above 6’4” that’s another plus

We need a coach who is able to build and lead a coherent roster.

After what I saw from the Kentucky game, MM has mailed it in and wouldn’t mind being let go. He can take his big buyout and go back to the OVC.

If they can bring in a good PG, it will change a lot. Guard play is where it is at in college and we are inconsistent at best there. The SEC is loaded with talented teams, and especially guards. That is where LSU is lacking the most, and where NIL could make a huge difference. It is so much more about Jimmy and Joe, than X and O, in college basketball. Coaches get too much of the blame for bad teams and too much credit for good teams.

they will beat A&M Saturday night. If they don't, they will keep it close and cover. They were blown out a few times earlier in the year where it looked like they had quit, then came back with very competitive games against some top teams in the nation. They just don't have the horses to hang a full game with the best in the nation. A&M is coming off a huge win over Auburn, and LSU a big loss to KY.

Givens currently has:
FG% of 26.9% (47-175)
3 Pt % of 24.8% (29-117)
FT% of 63.6% (21-33)
35 Turnovers

I don’t have stats on how many times he shot airballs or hit only the backboard on his shots. I also don’t have stats on how many times he simply gave the ball to the other team. All would be relevant if we had those though.

The question is who will transfer out after this year?

Reed should be solid - I think expecting too much from him would be setting yourself up for disappointment but If he could give us the 11 pts and 6 boards a game he was giving us before he got hurt and maybe a bit more that will be much needed.

The bigger question is IF CMM gets the increased NIL money we are told he will - does he make the right decisions on right fit to build a team that can compete - because I actually think he's show he can recruit, but the question for me is can he recruit the right kids to best compliment what's coming back, and that is an evaluation and roster construction thing - something I'm concerned he's not done to well with the first 3 years.

I dont see much hope for next season without most of the roster turning over. You just rely on the same freshmen as sophomores and hope the new freshmen coming in will provide much different is going to give us the same result.

Looks like Chest and Vyc Miller are on their way out through the portal based on playing time recently as it is.

Givens is the worst player to suit up in the last decade for LSU who has played a decent bit, he's literally bottom of the barrel in just about every measurable advanced stat in the conference.

I could see Robert Miller getting better and better at least.

Obviously gotta get Reed back but he also needs to play more consistent. This 20 point 12 rebound game followed up by a 5 point, 2 rebound, 14 minute game has gotta stop.

It would be great to get Ward back to playing but seems like he's on his way out through the portal as well. We missed him a ton this season along with Reed.

This team was just so hard to understand this season, McMahon made so many questionable moves. Losing Ward before the season started due to who knows what. Yes the Reed injury hurt us early on but playing Givens as much as he has is absolutely brutal to watch and its all because he failed to recruit a PG through the portal thinking a non ball handling 5'9 guy from UT-Martin would suffice there and now barely plays. Noah Boyde was a complete afterthought add. Dji Bailey was a glue piece to a roster that didnt have enough scorers/stars but he started every game.

I mean thank god we at least had Cam Carter, had he quit/gotten hurt early in the season I dont know we win a single conference game.

I think we all understand that, but looking forward with optimism, ideally the nucleus of the team would stay together. Obviously some will leave, and hopefully if they do we can at least upgrade in the portal.

This season was not good, but there were good points, and there's alot to build on.

That's a given, just treat it as a bridge year. What do you think will be a positive next season that will be attractive enough to lure a top notch coach the next season, besides money of course?

Im more concerned that players are gonna hit the portal and we’re back to square 1 of CMM having to completely rebuild a roster yet again.

Edit: I have nothing to back this on. Just a hunch at the moment.
