Crowds Uptown were huge for Iris /Tucks then even bigger for Bacchus Sunday. The area around Superior was crazy for Bacchus. Bacchus had some cool throws great bands and nice floats as always . Iris has really improved as a parade and Thoth was great for the kids Tucks has gotten huge in last 5 yrs. All in all nice weekend Uptown I didn’t get to see Endymion this year maybe swiruc it up on Saturday and go to Endymion instead of Uptown for Saturday

After living in New Orleans for 3 years, I would never do a Mardi Gras in Lafayette or anywhere else again. They don't compare

I got a ton of pretty decent stuff from Bacchus. I counted when I got home.

22 pairs of socks.

I didn't see any LEOs in the video... Maybe because they were all stacked up talking to one another a few blocks away. I wasn't far from Gallier Hall and had 12 LEOs in my block.

It’s fun when you finally find a spot. But the amount of weirdo grown men who act like the Neutral Ground is a game of Risk are fricking idiotic. And the old harpies with 5 empty chairs next to them who will scream at you if you stop to check your phone next to them.

I get wanting the tailgate vibe, but damn when you tailgate for a game you don’t fricking put your tent on the sideline of the game where you block everyone’s view. Even that wouldn’t be so bad if people were just normal and halfway courteous/neighborly.

Correct. Much cleaner and safer.

Yeah.. Things like Mardi Gras, tailgating, etc. are really fun when you're the person with the legit setup. Not so fun when you're the person without.

I would absolutely be out every day if I lived in New Orleans and it was as simple as fixing a drink and throwing on shoes to walk there. It's a much more difficult production when you're from elsewhere, even with a hotel room.

It really is that simple. If you aren’t expecting a set up or being at the front it really is that simple.

For people that live Uptown, absolutely. That/s my whole point. OP mentioned Lafayette, implying people who don't live in New Orleans.

If you live in BR, Lafayette, etc., there's the driving into town with traffic, getting transport to the parades from hotel since the majority of hotels are downtown, finding parking if you didn't get a hotel, sitting in parade traffic to get home if you are going home, etc.

In 2023, I did Zulu ball, Saturday day parades, Endymion Extravaganza, and Sunday all day/night parades coming each day/night from a hotel downtown that my friend booked. There was a lot of logistics and Uber-sitting for hours that went down simply because we don't live Uptown and can't throw on shoes and walk to everything we needed.

Crowds for Saturday morning uptown were crazy this year

Some college-aged assholes starting arguments with family after just pushing through crowd and parked in front of us. Literally standing in the street - the bands would have to shove them aside. Didn't even care they're blocking elderly folks and little kids that had been there all morning. Just no consideration. I expect those things at Endymion or for Thoth/Bacchus but never on historically-friendly Saturday morning.

I ride in Endymion, probably one of the largest crowds I’ve seen since 2010 when the Saints won the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I watched several trashy women yelling and fighting at Spanish Town over the weekend.. in front of elderly people and children.

These people really ruin events that should be fun.

FWIW - This isn't limited to New Orleans. The only reason I've started doing Spanish Town again is because we belong to a club that throws a party that the trashy people aren't allowed into. I've entirely stopped going to St. Patrick's Day.. probably like 6-7 years now. And have yet to have the urge to go back to New Orleans Mardi Gras since a couple of years ago when we did it big.

If I lived Uptown, would be a totally different story since I'd have control over how long I'm out there and the ability to dip out whenever I want.

I’m not a big Mardi Gras guy because I didn’t grow up with it and parades just aren’t my thing but usually do a few uptown parades because it’s so convenient

When did the ladders and set ups become such a problem? People are always saying it didn’t used to be like this

when my in-laws lived between St Charles and Magazine that Saturday of Iris and Ticks was always a blast. No driving, had our own restroom a few blocks away. Could not beat it.
