He misses way too many pitches and I realize he is young but not catching balls that are easily catchable is bothersome. He looks a little too relaxed.. I’m interested in other people’s take on this.

Our catchers aren’t great defensively. We knew this as it was noted all offseason. Hopefully they get better

It’s takes an adjustment to catch college pitchers vs high school. Give him some time.

We had issues with this last year. There were times we couldn’t catch strikes.

Doesn’t appear to be moving his body. Just trying to glove everything. Pass on the 55 ft. spikes.

Some of that is the knee down method everyone uses now

Agreed…he is a freshman who caught maybe 6-8 different guys with nowhere near the stuff these pitchers have. In college he is asked to catch 15-20 pitchers with excessively more movement. It is a big learning swing to understand each of these pitchers stuff and determine whether to block or not. There is a reason catcher is the most difficult position to master.

I mean Schmidt spiked 2 of those. That's almost impossible to block.

He did get mixed up on one earlier though. Hasn't been perfect but he receives well and frames decently well. Playing time in midweek games will do nothing but help him improve.

He is a true freshman and was one of the best HS catchers in the nation last year. Let’s give the kid at least 3 weeks into the season to start bitching FFS.
