The responses by some democrat congress seething with anger at the requirement to report five things you did... the way they advocate for mass civil unrest...
Like wtf there are people who don't report in to their boss???? Esp people who work at home??????????????
Everybody I know has to report in, except the burger flippers and massively aggravating Lowe's clerks who you can never seem to find anyway (notice a trend there?). Maybe some sales people who have quotas or monthly numbers but even then it's a good idea to check in.

If my boss asked me to list 5 things I did last week, I would respond with 5 things I did last week. Why are they bitching about having to do this?

Sure, but there are also folks who don't have access to their emails after work hours and may be on vacation... So those folks should be terminated?

As a salesman, I have to report daily through a CRM tool who, what, where I did that day.
I have zero fricks to give over this federal workforce needing to be coddled.

Most people report to their boss, not the worlds richest dork and his squad of teens who look like they flunked out of school shooter training camp

How dare they ask me to justify my check.

Prolly this.
They don't consider Elon their boss and are too hardheaded to understand that Trump is and he's delegated this work to Elon and crew.

The military always does some version of that within each unit for manning purposes. Heck last drill weekend we basically had to tally everything up and categorize. I'd argue that most bases unless you're LE or FD that everything else doesn't need to be 24/7. Only issue is if the base needs to go on lock down that unit would need to be in position (that's my career field). Problem is unless shite goes south we're essentially garden gnomes.

Its a government job. It is very different from the private sector where if you dont perform as an organizatoin, you fail. In the government, there is no failure or running out of OPM. So profit doesnt matter. There is no concern about margin. Having some extra fat in the workforce isnt a concern. There is no incentive for a WFH employee, or their boss, to drive higher performance.
There is probably a gargantuan amount of people on payroll doing absolutely nothing, or close to it.
People will do less and less work if allowed to. Its human nature. In a for-profit org, the place would close if there was enough lack of productivity. In the government there is no such thing so the fat remains and accumulates.

Agreed. You should be proud to list things you've worked on and cherish the opportunity that the richest person in the world might read your response.

Higher-ups in fed departments are warning their employees if they don't respond with a "perfect answer" they could still be subject to firing. Elon claims it's just any 5 tasks, but I don't think it'll be that simple. Maybe it will be. The VAs are even having a town hall to address this. They're scared to death of the admin. More than they should be, honestly.

lol I just got off an hour long teams call were we not only had to account for February sales but also discuss our March forecast and how our regions would meet them.
If you can’t answer an email then hit the bricks with quickness.

Yes, I manage over a dozen people who all work from home and I don't ask them to give me a list of 5 things they accomplish every week. Most remote jobs should have some way to measure production (some sort of tangible result) without having to ask for a list of things that you accomplished in the past week. I check in on my folks to see how things are going, but not in the manner of "give me a list of 5 things that you've done last week". That seems micro-managy and a slightly autistic way to measure performance.

Simple, respond to the email with, last week I was on approved vacation. What is the problem? How are so many people baffled about this?
Posted on 2/24/25 at 9:19 am to tadman

Then you are giving remote employees way too much rope.

I'm not, I can measure performance in ways other than, "give me a list of things you've accomplished". As should most other remote managers.

In this theoretical situation the employee is currently on vacation. Let’s say a ski trip with the family. Email was sent Saturday and due by Monday.
Not saying it’s a bad request, the timeline just doesn’t make sense for employees who don’t have after hours access

It is quite disturbing that people can’t grasp the concept of this whole operation.
Let’s say you work for a company and the owner wants to know how much waste exists in his company. He hires an independent contractor to come in and look over the books, which always include payroll and informs every employee to provide the information that they are asked for. If that independent contractor wants to understand what every employee is doing during a week and asks the employees to submit what they have done, you better believe every one of those workers would do that because if not, they could lose their jobs.
Musk is that independent contractor for President Trump.

Why are you so hung up on random outliers? Those situations are easily reconciled. You think Elon has a red button that he's gonna hit at the deadline and everyone who didn't respond is gonna fall through a trap door and be fired?
