The problem I see with it is that bosses will make this far more difficult than it has to be. I'm certain they will want to review each and every email, provide ridiculous feedback, force us to rewrite them only to have them have to be reviewed again by my immediate supervisor prior to it going to the branch manager who will also have "feedback" prior to finally allowing the worker to send out the five bullet points for our weekly status update

No, I just know how this email about our weekly work status will turn out. Management will make it unnecessarily difficult

I certainly am concerned, same as I was when I was in the private sector and we had layoffs. I’m hoping that being as I’m the only one at my agency that does what I do, that will protect my job

The purpose of the exercise is to determine if employees are checking and responding to emails. It is believed that- rightfully or wrongfully- that thousands of Fed employees aren’t even working at the most basic level

Like a lot of these kind of requirements, they will likely never be read.

You could probably put the line to Mary Had A Little Lamb, submit and get your box checked as “complete “.

Who said that this will be a weekly report? It seems like this is probably a one time thing.

I have no problem with the email update, my comment was directed towards the folks that think this will only take minutes. I’m certain my leadership will make this unnecessarily difficult. We’ve been told not to comply but I’m going to have an email ready with my usual weekly update ready to send out. Unless I have something in writing telling me not to comply, I have no issues sending it off at the end of the day

With all due respect mate I think they're rubbing off on you. If you're doing all the work as you say then you have nothing to fear.

anyone worth their salt as a manger knows who contributes and who doesn’t. so the way this will work is it will provide justification to can the worthless folks.

You're kind of making the case for Musk's position on this.

The reason for that is simple, they would want to make sure that the person reviewing (who almost certainly has no idea what you do/what it takes) understands the level of effort your tasks actually requires.

Imagine a fresh out of school computer science major who knows nothing about construction telling a craftsman that he didn't install enough concrete anchors in a day. (Random example)

That's the stupidity of the whole situation and the risk you take thinking "no big deal", because no matter what you do and write there they most likely won't have much of a clue on how to evaluate it.

TLDR: You can be great at your job and think what your bullet points supports that, but chances are it will be reviewed by someone who doesn't have a clue and may end up thinking it's insufficient. If you want to move up in the world, you may want to understand the concept of "knowing your audience" and all that entails.

As I said numerous times, I’m not worried about providing an update about work I’ve done. I simply started this thread to say management is going make this a far bigger pain the arse than they should

Sounds like your leadership are the ones that need weeding out. Hopefully you don’t go down with them. Can’t you answer the email from a personal email to cover yourself?

I think it's just a test to see who sends back an email. There's probably a bunch who don't even open their email, that's who they want to get.

First of all, how is this a pain and, secondly how will management make it more painful? I am required to submit to my supervisor a bi-weekly agenda of all the work I plan on accomplishing in the upcoming pay period that he looks at and approves. Submitting five things I did last week is a piece of cake.
