Feels like it has rebounded some with Mad Hatters and a few other new krewes. More marching bands also than in past. things were pretty dire 5 yrs ago with Caesar and Zeus gone. Argus needs an upgrade. So many more Krewes in New Orleans now it is hard to get riders for JP krewes but it does appear to be better than 5 yrs ago

There’s almost zero parades now in Metairie

I wonder if JP thought outside the box a little bit if they could help JP Krewes with their memberships and riders. On Mardi Gras day there are a ton of truck floats. Those can't be that much cheaper to ride on than just joining one of the many JP krewes that are in need of more riders. I wonder if limiting the truck floats would drive membership to other krewes in JP? Not saying it would work, just a hypothetical to make JP Mardi Gras that much better. I have no dog in the hunt, just a hypothetical.

Caesar and Zeus gone? That's news to me. What happened to Rhea and Diana? Dia-Rhea?

Didn't know that Zeus didn't parade anymore. What a shame. As a kid in the late 70's and 80's it was the only one my parents took our family to see on the Southshore. Used to have great floats for a non- Super Krewe as I remember.

Friday night in Metairie was better than I expected, especially the bands.
And I agree that Argus on Mardi Gras day needs to be better

Zeus was always the best parade in metry. We used to get dropped off on the parade route to fend for ourselves…there is no feeling like that when you are 12.

I remember one year in the mid to late 70's when the temperature for Zeus was -4 degrees with a wind chill of 15 below. It was cold, wet, and windy. I've been to the Canadian Rockies and Swiss Alps in January, and lived through a lot of snow and Noreasters in NYC, but I have never been that cold since that Monday night in Metairie.

1979

And Jefferson Parish already had a bunch of parades in the parish. Only New Orleans Krewes that paraded in JP that year were Endymion and Pandora, they both paraded in Kenna Bra..

Is pretty dead. No parade until Thursday after today then only 4 more until Mardi gras.

That's by design and the only way Metairie can put on a decent parade.

Metairie has tried stacking the parades on the first weekend and tying them into the Family Gras concert. It has seemed to get Metairie Mardi Gras back above water.

The New Orleans Krewes have just gotten too big with riders wanting to be in Endymion or going down St. Charles Avenue and Metairie Krewes cannot compete. With the amount of money it costs to ride, many just choose to go the New Orleans parade route instead of spending the money to go down Vets.

My family lived in Chateau, in the back. That was a fun gras. I was 10.

Metairie Mardi Gras was huge in the 80's...to 1990..

Atlas Friday
Caesar Saturday
Rhea Sunday
Thor Monday
Centurions Tuesday
Mardi Gras Wednesday
Aquilla Thursday
Diana Friday
Saturn Saturday
Napoleon Sunday
Zeus Monday
Argus Mardi Gras day.

And there was also Isis, Mercury and Sinbad but I forgot what days they rolled on.

I always heard that Harry Lee would strongly encourage the people in JP with means to ride in the JP parades.

They are. Have you seen the demographics on half of the trucks?

Krewes cost more because they’re a 12 month a year thing with more events, where the truck riders just ride because it’s a fun thing to do
