Old school LHSAA powerhouse Sicily Island is closing…

Another sign of the times in rural North Louisiana… Sicily Island was the state runner up twice under Raymond Peace, and his son coached Louisiana Tech leading them to three winning seasons.
Also closing is Central of Jonesville, but really located in Larto on the lake… one of the most isolated and always one of the smallest schools in the LHSAA.
Catahoula Parish population peaked at 16,351 in the 1900 census, and has dropped from 12,287 in 1980 to 8,906 in 2020

I'll second this, but not because of the speed traps, but because of the people.

There was another school in Georgia running it that I saw on YouTube… don’t know if they still do

My mom (no pics) graduated from there in the early 60's.
Sicily Island was depressing as hell 40 years ago, can't imagine how bleak it is now

I always wondered why they called it Central of Jonesville when it was in Larto. Heck it’s 30 miles from Jonesville.

So did my mother-in-law. My wife was raised in Manifest the first 2-3 years of her early life.

They were a power in the late 70'-s running that Notre Dame Box offense.
My old alma mater played them several times in the playoffs and they were always very difficult to stop with that unique offense.
