How do you pronounce Martinez?

We have an unincorporated community where I'm at called that and most people here pronounce it Marta-nez

Both can be correct depending on where you are.

depends on the person. If they're hispanic, it's Mar-TEA-nez. If they're a couyon, it's Mar'n-nez

While growing up in Louisiana and when I go back pronounce it Marta-nez.

Living in Texas for the last 25 years and pronounce it Mar-ti-nez.

It is Mar ti nez, no doubt, but uppity whites call themselves Marta nez.

you get that a lot in north Louisiana, and most of the couyons down in south Louisiana think that and other Spanish names from around Iberia Parish are cajun names

But if you live in a Spanish speaking country it would be pronounced marteen isntead of marten.

Martinez is son of martin. so marteenez

Growing up in Ascension Parish, there was only one Martinez in our school - a white girl who grew up in the local area and whose family was from there.

She pronounced it MART-in-nez.

I always assumed it was pronounced that way, until I embarrassingly learned different.

I know three people with that last name. Two say Mar-TEE-nez, and one says Martin-ez

I pronounce it like they do in Spanish.
