It seems rich to me that the Europeans are running around acting like the US wronged them in some way by our suggesting we rethink our role in NATO.

After 2 extremely devastating world wars, CAUSED BY EUROPEANS, the US decided it was best to help them rebuild by providing defense. For 80, years the US taxpayer has drastically subsidized their security apparatus. While they smugly gaze back across the pond and criticize us,"Dumb Americans don't have high speed rail, Why does their healthcare suck?, etc..." My friends, you only have these things because we freed you up to pay for it. $22 trillion would have modernized our infrastructure here in the US... But instead it went to you... 500 million of you.

If the US ever dramatically reduces its role in NATO spending, you can bet they will not come to our aid if we were ever invaded... When in reality they should be saying "Thank you".

If we had that back, our debt would be halfway paid.

Let’s demand they repay us then. Either that or we can divide up ownership of Europe with Russia.

What happens when the debt gets wiped? Do we start an account accruing money, and where does that accrual go? What services will be provided through the collected taxes and who does it benefit? Some transparency on this grand plan would be nice.

more than that becaues you're not taking into account the interest/debt servicing cost.

anyway, i'm kinda glad it worked out like it did. we didn't need some lukewarm 'milquetoast' audit of our government.

we needed an enema full of bleach to fix this shite.

the rot runs deep. if we had that back, nobody would be doing what elon is doing right now and who knows what kind of filth we would have found in another 25 years going to other countries.

What does NATO do help the USA?

Why should we help NATO when their countries want to depend on their natural enemy, Russia, for energy.

This is exactly why they do not want Elon doing what he’s doing. Sunlight, the best disinfectant

You could say that we would be less likely to have ever reached trillions in debt. The money spent during Bush would have been less, Obama’s nonsense surely would have been more lower even with domestic divisions he created & undoubtably lower during Trump’s 1s tenure without the globalist f**ks. Bad money follows bad money

This one always amuses me

Half the US states are bigger than most European countries. Europeans have no clue just how big the U.S. is

I know things are happening faster than you ever dreamed of, but even so, there is a bit of time before the debt gets wiped out so you can chill until it gets closer.

The EU armed forces aren’t capable of defending themselves, how would they help us against China?

Germany has 20 operational fighter aircraft the day Russia invaded Ukraine.

The UK wasn’t much better off.

China and Russia could wipe Europe off the map without much worry about anyone but Poland who has rearmed significantly in the last ten years.

Even worse, because of the industrialization of the west none of those nations could sustain a prolonged invasion because they can’t produce the munitions to do so.

Our politicians would have still spent it. With a high degree of waste.

You may want to get more detail with your
“facts”. Look at annual numbers as hpercentages of GDP for each NATO member. The U. S has also received military assistance from NATO during the war to expel Iraq from Kuwait, as well as in Afghanistan and in other situations.

Thanks for bringing this up. Enlighten us with the GDP percentages, "fact" guy.

I'll even ignore the broader truth that this arrangement by and large is for the defense of Europe.

I’m not mad at the Europeans. I’m mad at our career politicians who gave them that money.

Maybe about 5% of troops during all of Afghanistan...that's it...the entirety of the rest of NATO country contributions.
