Damn, that's a huge loss for the area as far as jobs go.

A lot of jobs that paid well. Definite ripple effect will hit the area.

Is it even possible for that area to be more economically depressed than it already is?

You have a point but unfortunately I think the answer is yes.

Paper is going the way that wooden shingles went. We don’t use paper like we used to.

I wonder what will happen to all the land the own? I guess they will keep it and just ship the wood other places.

Well packages in cardboard have increased dramatically over the years. I don’t know if this mill was container board but boxes still use paper.

Article says containerboard; that is some type of cardboard box.

Not sure if containerboard includes light weight boxes that food comes in or is just a typical cardboard box.

It would not shock me if it’s turned into a pellet mill

Closed their mill but purchased Georgia Pacific's West Monroe plant (Corrugated boxes/container board).

Trump’s America.

And I mean that seriously. A business such as a paper mill or some other factory, if it doesn’t have a sufficient market for its products locally can look to expand its markets in other areas or overseas. U.S. wood products are exported every day. But with the Trump tariffs, and foreign tariffs, foreign markets are closed.

This is one way that tariffs can actually harm US manufacturing, rather than “bring it back.” If your new or existing plant can only sell locally, it may not be able to survive. Expect these upside-down trade policies to shutter more manufacturing and farming operations due to the closure of foreign markets.
