Just opened one near me in Houston. Chicago hot dog and Italian beef chain from the Windy City for those that aren't familiar. I'm always game for a good hot dog. Anyone on here have prior experience with this chain or tried the one in Katy? Good? General assessment?

I have had it in Schaumburg, IL. It's a fast food hotdog place. Expectations should fit with about Whataburger, Culver's level etc. I'd eat it again.

Some people love it including my family in Chicago, I think its ok. Its overpriced IMO. Don't expect fast food prices, even for a hotdog. I guess its not much worse then your better fast food places, but there's sticker shock still to me when my family of 5 is like $75 for sandwiches, fries, and a soft drink.

Dogs are good, just pricey. Its not my favorite italian beef, but I like it. A lot of people love it.

The half italian beef half sausage is great if they still do that. Make sure to get the spicy giardiniera. Solid Italian beef for what it is. I've only been to the ones in the Chicago area, but I assume they do mostly the same stuff.

Italian beef is solid but not elite.

Hot dogs are huge but solid.

Just overall, over priced chain with above average food.

Very consistent and service like Chick Fil A. I wish they would open one in Lafayette, it would make a killing. Chicago dog and Italian Beef are great, and that chocolate cake shake should be illegal.

When the first one opened in the DFW area, they had police out there every day directing traffic. I went after it settled down. The food was fine, but I’m still not sure why there was that much excitement for it.

Whataburger

Uh, no. Their menu and food quality is far above fricking Whataburger.

Grew up eating Portillo's back when Dick Portillo still owned the place. They've since sold and are expanding. Could just be a mental thing but I feel things have certainly dropped a bit at some of these places outside of IL, but it's still really damn good.

I've never eaten anything bad off their menu and it seems like everyone has a different favorite off the menu. Burgers, salads, dogs, polish, italian beefs, the chocolate cake...so much incredible food.

Obviously hit a soft spot with you as you grew up on them.

Call it Whatahotdog if you want.

I feel like getting similar at Checkers or Subway would cost me the same.

Don't expect amazing, and you'll be quite content.
