1989- LSU vs Georgetown in the Superdome. 54,000+ filled the Superdome to watch an LSU basketball game. Probably can't get 5,400 to show up for the next home game.

1990- LSU vs Loyola Marymount. Probably the most entertaining game in LSU history. LSU scored 148 pts. LM was years ahead of its time and shot 48 3s. Entertaining and a peek into the future of basketball.

Pretty solid teams through the years. Will Wade's teams always packed the place. Best the years with Shaq, Cj, Maurice Williamsom, Stanely, and Vernell were also fun to watch.

The 2006 team was amazing because the entire starting 5 and 6th man grew up in the BR area and we made it to the Final 4

Vernel was underrated. My favorite LSU MBB player. Overshadowed by Shaq and CJ. Loved his style of play

1978-81. I know we didn't win a NC, but we made the Final Four in 1981, the Elite Eight in 1980, and were SEC champs three years in a row, and SEC tournament champs in 1980 (the only time I'm aware of).

Those four seasons the PMAC was rocking, basketball was fun and alive, and the team starters and bench were really talented and a delight to watch.

Mid 2000’s was a pretty good run with Brandon Bass, Big Baby, and Tyrus Thomas all winning Freshman of the year and player of the year (outside of TT). Those were fun games

I was there!

Shaq and CJ were fun to watch, but The final 4 run by Brady's team was probably the most fun though!

ETA - the problem with Brady's final 4 run is he couldn't sustain his success.

Close, 1979 and 1981. Kyle Macy's buzzer beater in the season finale gave Kentucky the 1980 title. Tigers won the tourney the next weekend when the Astronaut Dewayne Scales went into orbit.

Being the team that ended JJ Reddick's gay Duke career.

I don't know that any run was more fun than the '86 team with the freak defense making the Final Four.

Dale Brown, for all his faults, had top talent and great filler players every year of his tenure. Yes he was not a great xs and os guy, but there were times where he had great bench coaches (Tex Winter and a few others - not Johnny Jones). He always recruited well and the hype for LSU basketball was always there year after year and he always made the tourney. After Brown there have been a few great highlights here and there...Brady had his moments, Wade had his moments, but by in large, this thing has been dead for decades, and it is a shame if you ever went to those games with that atmosphere to see what it is now.

Final Four with Ricky Blanton playing center as 11 seed. 2006 was great but if you are looking at the pinnacle of LSU BBall it was Dale Brown and the 80's and early 90's. We expected to be in the tournament every year. Lines outside waiting to get in. Actually camping out overnight. Nothing like it since. And that's when the student section was in the best spot.

my dad and I had season tickets those years. The PMAC was absolutely packed and LOUD, and the team was talented, played hard, and fun to watch. Massive energy on the floor and among the fans.

We've had isolated good years since then, but that's my benchmark for LSU basketball.

And when fans say we can't be a basketball school, I think back to those years and I know that we CAN be.

Just as far as sheer jubilation, I don't see how anything could top the 3 days in 2006 beating Duke and Texas with a team whose top 6 players consisted of 5 from EBR and 1 from an hour away.

So much awesomeness when Ricky Blanton put that shot in against Georgetown in the dome. If only college me could see 2025 me sitting on the couch watching that basketball cripple fight last night

I was a student in the early-mid 80s and the Deaf Dome was PERPETUALLY standing room only for home games. Those were the times of Leonard Mitchell, Howard Carter, Rudy Macklin, Johnny Jones, Greg Cook, Willie Sims and Ethan Martin.

I distinctly remember being the first one in line at 7 am for the March 1981 Ole Miss game for the chance to enter the half-court shot contest (I made the layup and free-throw but missed the 3 pointer).

LSU was ranked #2 and beat Arkansas and Wichita State in the Superdome to advance to its second Final Four in Philly (first was 1953).

That's why I always push back on the narrative of "Who cares? We are not a basketball school and never will be." No, LSU just hasn't found the right guy since Brown. It's possible (not certain) they had the right guy, but not any more. Still, if LSU basketball became a consistent winner like Alabama and Auburn are today (and weren't at any time before hitting on the right HCs), the PMAC would be just as raucous as it was 30-40 years ago.

It's incredible Brown was willing to play LMU at their own game. It took Brown's massive bravado to that when everyone else would have tired to slow LMU down. Just a whirlwind of action. Gathers scored 48. Kimble scored 32. Jackson scored 34. Shaq went for 29 and 18 (rebounds).

People who aren't even LSU fans think that was one of the best college basketball games ever played.
