I thought season 4 was a snoozefest. Let's hope this new season is better.

quote:

We are not in Alaska anymore. The upcoming fifth season of HBO‘s Emmy-winning crime anthology series True Detective — and the second with Issa Lopez as writer/showrunner — is moving along. It also is moving to another state, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Film Francesca Orsi told Deadline during an interview at The White Lotus Season 3 premiere while discussing the network’s upcoming slate.

“It’s set in New York, in Jamaica Bay,” Orsi said. “Issa has a lot to say, not unlike she did with Night Country. It’s a different milieu but just as powerful.”

Filming on the new season is slated to begin in the coming months, with casting in preliminary stages.

Have any of the seasons come close to Season 1?

Season 3 was solid. Not as good as 1, but better than 2 and 4. 4 was a shite show

IMHO none of the other seasons came close to S1. Wish there was a way to bring WH and MM back for another run.

It will somehow be kind of taken from the Jamaica Beach killings with that architect but women will be the hero this time

I’m likely out on this. They’re taking the same showrunners from a dismal S4 and giving another green light. No thanks.

For the others, S3 is good.

This is a forced franchise at this point that no one really wants.

Reminds me of Jaws, great opening act and then the sequels were a pedestrian facsimile. The author of True Detective, like Jaws, had one good story in him.

They have to be lying about the viewership of S. 4. No way that outdrew S. 1. I didn't see 4 and won't be watching 5.

Yeah, no thanks. Season 4 was neither engaging nor surprising, and it certainly wasn’t enjoyable. This show has gone the way of the Dexter franchise. I won’t watch more.

Season 3 was good, not as great as season 1.

Season 2 was a clusterfrick that tried too hard too fast to replicate the season 1 success.

Season 4 was just fricking insulting with its erroneous and unnecessary callbacks to season 1, started decent and just got stupid as it kept going.

It’s kind of a shame that they abandoned the season 1 storyline entirely, felt like/still feels like there’s more meat on that bone to explore. Then again, maybe it’s perfect the way it is just leaving what wasn’t shown to the imagination.
