It was on the truck that rear ended them pushing them onto the tracks.

What a fricking idiot. Driver had an hour to drive the car in any direction but did nothing.

Both.
The SUV had plenty of time to back up or go forward but they decided to get out and abandon the car.
Dumb.

No arm in front and could've just kept it in gear and driven through, but no. The only way this person could've been dumber would've been if they centered it on the tracks and stayed in the car

I'll bet my 401k the driver was a woman.

Smart enough to get out of the car at least.

Clear cut hit and run, IMO

I imagine train every engineer has had a close call at one point in their career where there was no way they could have stopped.

To be fair, they were just rear ended and jolted onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train with the horn blaring.

Their brain was likely moving in all kinds of directions and fight/flight instinct kicks in and flight took over.

With the shock of the wreck, arms dinging on top of them and the sound of the horn they probably felt like the train was right on top of them when it really wasn’t (relatively)

Every wreck with a train ever is always on the vehicle driver and not on the train. 100% of them.

And what a fricking idiot just getting out of the car and not backing around the gate or driving forward and getting the frick out of the way. Wow.

Basically.

You have 200+ deaths per year like this, and it is astounding how this happens.

1. Am I in a car?
2. Is that car stopped?
3. do I see rails under me or a train coming at me?

==>> drive forward or reverse or anywhere but where I am, if that requires bumping the gate or the car behind me, it is better than dying under a train.
