To go to Disneyland Paris, Egypt, New York, put in a swimming pool, buy an Acura suv, Landrover and Tesla. And numerous over things like home improvements.

Seems like I’ve been seeing this more often. These schools pop up in the hood, people in charge steal a bunch of money and then they shut down.

All of the charter schools are doing this. That is why they exist.

Definitely in some cases. But some do a lot better for the kids than the public system. My sense is that it’s the Wild Wild West out there.

Some charter schools are run very well and are an incredible alternative to district schools.

Others are pure grift.

Kind of like private schools. Some are incredible, some are embezzlement factories.

$166,520 in charter school funds to lease and/or purchase vehicles for personal use;
$130,494 for personal travel expenses for herself, her husband, and her daughter;
$129,493 for expenses and improvements to a non-school building that at one point was owned by Scott’s mother, Marilyn Webb;
$111,153 for work on Scott’s personal residence;
$88,607 from her school credit card for items “that appeared to be personal in nature.”

The founder of Impact Charter School in Baker is accused of diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the school to pay for personal travel, a car lease and work done on her house, according to a state audit released Monday.

In the long-awaited investigative audit, the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office uncovered evidence Impact's founder Chakesha Scott made extensive use of the charter school's money for her personal benefit.

The auditors found evidence of a potential kickback scheme with a school contractor and questioned Scott’s decision to divert more than $1.5 million to Friends of Impact Charter School, a private philanthropic foundation she also leads that is supposed to support the school but which auditors say has never done so. Scott is alleged to have misused money both from the school amd from the private organization.

The best part is her attorney, Ron Haley - we all know that scumbag, who says these allegations are "outrageous, egregrious and preposterous", excuses the whole thing because the organization she funneled the money to is a private organization run by her and her husband and thus outside the scope of a public audit. Not that she didn't do it but that she should get away with it via the method she did it. I love it.

The audit, conducted in response to complaints the auditor's office had received, alleges the school's CEO, Chakesha Scott, diverted money to the Friends of Impact Charter School, where she is also the CEO. In addition to improperly using money from the FICS account, the auditors say, she used school funds to pay for trips taken by herself and her family, lease or buy vehicles for personal use, pay off credit card charges that appeared personal in nature and pay for improvements at a building the school did not own.

In its response to the audit, the school said information was cherry-picked and "reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the relationship" among the various entities associated with the school. "Dr. Scott also notes that if there were any inadvertent errors in corporate formalities or record-keeping, those errors can be corrected," the response said.

Going with the minor clerical error defense. Very nice

Much like crooked politicians, it probably depends on who the CEO is.

Expect more charter schools and more of these types of stories once Landry's ESA program starts injecting millions of state dollars into them.

Is it just me or is there something strangely the same about all these folks we are catching stealing, or lacking leadership skills etc?

I once told married charter school owners that they couldn't use funds from the schools accounts as down payment on a construction loan to build an 800k house. Don't get me started

Also, the auditors also say she may have used charter school funds to pay for work at her home, including landscaping and the installation of an in-ground swimming pool.

Next year they were going to offer swimming lessons!

The Archdiocese has been diverting much of the tuition I pay to molestation victims. I put both in the same boat.

This lady has potential to be a democrat mayor some day. Maybe even congress.
