Home plate Ump had a fairly tight zone, IMO. Someone sitting behind the plate can verify this.

very tight. I was behind plate today. Impressed with a couple ABs from the freshman that were able to hold off on some really close pitches: Curiel and Hogg

Needed an offensive day like this. I wanted to see the potential that we all know is there...

I've been to the last three Saturday scrimmages. Schmidt has been hit hard at each. Are they hammering his fast ball or change up? I fully expect he'll be more effective when he faces teams that have not seen his stuff.

Do you know if the umps purposely tighten the zone more than it would be for a regular season game to prepare the pitchers for season games?

I know the back to back homers in the first were off 95 mph fastballs. I didn't pay close attention to what else got hit though.

The only knock on Curiel was weight and power. He has already improved both. It appears even an uptick of power since the fall

Need to get this guy a new bat that doesn’t have a hole in it. Anyone know if he has the potential to redshirt?

He has not redshirted in his career. It would depend on his willingness.

But it does bring up something I’ve been thinking about with Jones. In previous seasons, Jones has been practicing with the catchers. That meant he was doing everything they did, with the pitchers and whatnot. Because we didn’t have enough bodies back there for him to not do it.

Now, we have the bodies. He’s only playing first and he won’t be getting as beat up every day in practice as a 4th catcher. He really has a chance to take a leap forward offensively.

I’ve thought this as well but really don’t know. I could see doing this for the benefit of both the pitchers and the batters but I’m not sure this is happening.
Regardless, I do think Schmidt and Evans will need to perform well for LSU to be a top tier team. If Mayer can get dialed in and have a 2 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio LSU could be nasty
