Mississippi today

quote:

The program provides each eligible child $40 a month in grocery assistance. It was estimated the program would have brought in $38 million to the state last year.

quote:

Gov. Tate Reeves, who oversees DHS, also did not respond to questions about the decision, though he told news outlets last year he made the decision based on his desire to reject “attempts to expand the welfare state.”

It’s hard to imagine there are hundreds of thousands of parents in Mississippi who can’t afford to make their kid a sandwich for lunch when they are home from school in the summer.

I thought they already increased EBT in the summer months when there's no school.

When did feeding kids become one of the main functions of public schools?

When you figure out that you’re failing at actually educating kids, you make up other metrics to make it look like you’re making an impact on the community.

Good for the governor.

Except Mississippi is doing quite the opposite and actually excelling at educating kids. Even the NYT had to compliment the educational turnaround.

Mississippi Today is a trash publication funded by a billionaire. They tried to cover up a key element of Favregate because it implicated the editor's mom.

A turnaround is great. What’s the percentage of 4th graders reading on grade level? I’ll bet it’s under 60%.

I wasn’t making a statement about Mississippi education in my post. I was referring to the US public education system that is failing.

That's a worthy goal and motive. I respect that

There isn't. Programs like these are largely being used to feed illegals. This is one of the many ways Dems hide the true cost of illegals.

I read the newspaper and news sites on the web every day and I have yet to see a headline "Local child dies due to starvation" anywhere in the media. I have actually read a couple of stories of someone intentionally starving a kid/ kids but that's not the same thing we're talking about here.

This year, Mississippi will offer new summer nutrition options to help our children reach their full potential. With SUN Meals, kids 18 and under can get free meals and snacks at schools, parks, and other group meal locations. In some rural areas, SUN Meals To-Go can be picked up or delivered.Jun 4, 2024.

Mississippi has been offering free meals to those under 18 at most of the public schools in the state.
