Hundreds of thousands seems a stretch. I don’t know but I have been in parts of the state I could see it. The delta, there’s some rural areas very poor.

Mississippi Today is our local equivalent to MSNBC. It's liberal propaganda trash.

parents in Mississippi who can’t afford to make their kid a sandwich

40 dollars is not going to make a dent in individual food costs.

Have you priced eggs and sandwich meat?

Heck even the unhealthy food is expensive. A 24 pack of coke, could wipe a thrid or half of the 40 dollars.

Even a cheap lunchable is about 2-3 dollars each.

That’s very good versus the national average. Congrats to Mississippi.

This is the way.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that public schools have “summer feeding programs.” WTF School is out. It’s mom and dad’s job to feed their kids during the summer. Not on my tax dollar.

When did feeding kids become one of the main functions of public schools?

Public schools in certain areas with certain demographics are nothing more than government run day cares for all ages

They sell the preloaded cards for cash to buy beer and dope. 500 dollars worth of foodstamps, sell for 250 cash.

This will go far to improve MS economically in the future. These kids will have a chance in life and not be a drain on the system. Maybe one day even the delta won’t be such a shithole
