What's crazy about the current state of our team is the young core

Zion, BI, Murray, and CJ are whatever. Pretend that we just dumped them into teams with cap space.

Most teams would be extremely excited to have a young core of Trey, Herb (both on extremely reasonable contracts) and Missi for a rebuild. Add in Hawkins (who has shown promise) and Jose (on a decent contract) and it's hard to argue that we shouldn't just blow it up.

It is just insane how bad our injury luck/curse is, with how deep this team potentially is.

I think you remain patient with Zion. It’s not like the NBA is a league of parity, how many different champions have there been in the last 10 years? The only way we realistically compete for a title in the next 5 years is Zion, end of story. You can disagree but Zion gives us a chance.

This is the ceiling, so very unlikely, but why can't Trey/Herb become like Tatum/Brown? I NEVER thought Trey had this in him. I knew he had the potential skill set, but I didn't envision the mentality change of going from role player to leading scorer type. And he's still not there, but he's further than I thought he'd go already.

Tatum is only two years older than Trey…

I would also add I hope we can sign Brandon Boston to a Naji Jose type of deal. Dude is a nice bench piece.

If we get under the tax line and have a roster spot, we can likely do that exact thing.

It means moving a piece by the deadline, though, and the trade market is stuck until Butler and/or Fox move.

Herb is too limited offensively to be anything other than a high level role player.

What you see from him now is who he is. This is his prime.

You get a top 3 pick this season and everything will look better going forward. I think a lot of people will be a lot more optimistic once they know where our pick lands. We have the a ready made supporting cast for a budding star. We just need to be able to be in position to land one in the draft.

I think you get a good pick this year and stop building the team around Zion, but trading him CJ and BI right now doesn’t make sense.
1. Trade BI this trade deadline
2. Trade CJ this offseason
3. Give Zion one more year next year and then see where you’re at trade wise or buy in wise.

We have a contending level post season surrounding cast. But we don’t have a contending level #1 or #2, so the surrounding cast means frick all.

The Dejounte injury makes me more inclined to get max value for Herb now or this summer. I know this board hates that idea, but Herb is a high level role player on a cheap contract. He’ll be 28 next year and we won’t contend during this contract.

im still listening to offers this summer for him. If it’s a solid deal, you pull the trigger. We’ve been saying the same thing for 2+ years with Zion with the same outcome of an uncertain path. If there’s a good deal, make the move.

Murray was a win now move that I think was short sighted. I don’t see him as part of this young core.

You keep Trey and Herb and Zion and then you try to get a number one between Zion growing up or your draft picks the next few years.

Trey can grow into your number two. Herb is a good number three. Then you just need Missi to grow into a legit starting C and some role players

I think must keeps are
Trey, Herb, Missi,

Want to keep:
Jose (he is worth more to us that what we can get, unless he is part of a bigger deal)

DJ i like what I have seen from him but the injury really sucks

Zion - you kind of have to keep one more season. He looks better this year and hopefully continues with maturing, unless you get an amazing offer.

BI has to be moved

CJ with the injury to DJ do you keep him? I think you have to shop him and get younger

Boston keep
Hawkins ??

This is something I try to get people to understand when they yell blow it up, or trade everyone. Every team is not winning the championship.

Another great point I have made before.
Michael Jordan took 7 years to win his first
LeBron James took 9 years to win his first

I don’t think Herb is a must keep. He turns 27 before the season starts next year. His value is peaked. I’d trade him if you’re able to get multiple firsts. The longer we have him, the less his value will be. Similar to Dorian Smith, Thybulle, and other defensive specialist.

It’s time to collect picks and young players again.

Zion is only 24 years old. You don’t give up on that and we literally have nothing else to spend the money on.

That is delusional levels of hope. Herb will never be a #3. And a Zion-Herb-Missi core will never work in today’s game. You can’t get enough spacing from Trey and whatever draft pick.

Herb is too old and will want to get paid too much to be part of the core. If he had a relatively cheap 4 year extension kicking in like Trey or if we had a spacing 5, it may be different. But keeping Herb through this contract is the same mistake we made not trading BI two seasons ago.

this is a stupid take when both of these guys were having regular season success before they won championships. Zion can’t even play in the playoffs and even when he is healthy this team has only ever been play in caliber. It’s a bad comparison.

I’m willing to keep him if the offers aren’t particularly great, but turning down every offer for Zion to wait another year to see if it finally starts to work is not a good idea.

And just think if we had kept the nba steals leader and one of the best wing defenders in the league and still only 21….
