Shots fired: McConaughey, Harrelson & others target Hollywood-CA

***Stolen from a thread on MTV Board, posted here for the eventual political discourse of bashing the bleeding shite out of California***
A well done piece to create a buzz about migrating the entertainment industry out of Hollywood.
While this is specifying Texas as being a new media hub, I wouldn't mind seeing this sort of thing cause a wide dispersal of media power throughout the country to create more competition.

Keep Hollyweird out of Texas.
I dealt with those types when I lived in SoCal, and now I live right across the Red from Texas.

We don't want more Hollywood in Texas.

While I hate most of Hollywood, Dazed and Confused, Office Space and King of the Hill are three of my all time favorite's and come from two Texas guys.

Taylor Sheridan is going to run his empire in Texas right now.

Sounds like they are asking the Texas State Legislator to subsidize the film industry. Is that a good thing for Texas? Louisiana has backed off of the tax credits from what I understand.

Don't pay them anything. Let them stand on their own.

The bigger fight would be against UK and Australia for big films (ie the stuff that used to go to Celtic) and Canada for TV (the stuff that used to go to Second Line). If Trump finds a way to stop runaway productions, then the states can resume the fighting.
Also, most blue collar IA and Teamster guys that lost their homes in L.A. and got pushed out of the market will need to find a new place to live. NM and TX are probably the best candidates. For what it’s worth, they tend to lean right, so they won’t flip your state.
But make no mistake, they’re just moving the assembly line around. The machine itself stays in CA and NY. Even the powerhouse one man shows like Taylor Sheridan and Tyler Perry still have teams based there.
Edit: driving between ATL and BR all of the time, I pass the Kia and Hyundai plants. Those are still Korean companies that manufacture in the states for a number of reasons. That’s probably the best comparison. They’re trying to get the incentives for the plants.

The Louisiana and Georgia incentives are good if your goal is to attract production. The. case I have made for years is that is the wrong way to build a sustainable industry. You have to get the decision makers to establish roots.
Texas is following the same poor incentive strategy. It won't work, especially now when most studios don't want to deal with the unions and the dollar is strong. Production will be going to Canada, Australia, and Eastern Europe for the forseeable future, with scraps going to incentive states.

Was that Renee Zellweger? She looks different.

GA was built up enough to be sustainable, but on a much smaller scale. Austin and Dallas feel the same, but built around a commercial market. Louisiana completely screwed the pooch by introducing overzealous Related Party Transaction regulations that effectively disincentivized film-makers from making long term investments here. I’m still curious if anyone warned 50 Cent about this or if he gets a waiver.

Actually its 5 fading actors trying to get paydays to come to TX. Some of these folks havent been a lead in a film in almost a decade. MM has mostly been doing voice work

The type of people attracted to Hollywood don't really assimilate with the community surrounding them. Sure they may drop in a time or two but really their community is nomadic and international.
The same people with LA/NYC in their bios will re-form their exclusive group wherever they go. It's not a location issue, it's a culture and socioeconomic issue.
Some people have their entire culture built around money/status culture and it simply cannot coexist with work to live normal culture.
They could be in Siberia or Africa, or Antarctica and the result would be the same.

Kind of funny how once those "overzealous Related Party Transaction" regulations went into effect, the constant articles about fraud in the program disappeared. Almost as if the related party transactions were all just schemes to generate inproper credits. Further the amount of production in the state grew since those were put in place.
