Should the NBA be required to roster a minimum number of Americans?

They do this in Europe and in the UK to even get a work visa to play soccer there in the first place you have to meet certain criteria (such as number of games played for your national team).
Make it 11/15 roster spots per team have to go to Americans. The best international players can still come okay here but Americans should be the ones playing in America’s basketball league.

They do that in soccer in order to use the domestic league to strengthen the national team. USA basketball is already far and away the best national team.

So if the US doesn’t win gold a few times in a row you’ll support my proposal?

If I was running an nba team. I’d probably only roster 2-3 Americans.
Unfortunately, a lot of the Americans are very entitled and lacking refined skill coming up through AAU programs and now an NIL infested college system. Also, you have to worry about your good Americans demanding a trade to New York, LA, Miami, etc. American basketball players also have a strong dependence/addiction to smoking weed.
Euro’s just work hard and embrace their city. They also tend to improve their skills as they go.

No.
Kids should abandon the shitty AAU circuit that doesn’t teach them how to play and only allows a bunch of grifters to become (relatively) wealthy. The Americans are still the better athletes. The youth coaching in Europe is much better.
Some brokedick from Atlanta or Detroit is not worried about kids becoming better ball players. He just want to get colleges/shoe companies to pay him as much as possible to steer the kid in their direction

There isn’t anywhere close to enough non Americans in the NBA to even consider this

is this a huge issue?

I would like a return to American-style basketball but that would take draconian jingoistic sanctions and another generation to implement.

75% of NBA players are American.
Do they really need a rule? I'd rather the best players play in the best league regardless of nationalities.

Then what do they play
There has to be something better than high school ball for those type of prospects. High school ball is good for average kids, and totally inadequate for NBA prospects

Your team would suck dick.

Probably at first, but in 3-4 years after all of my euros develop and stay together (instead of quitting and forcing trades if things don’t go their way immediately), they would mow through the league with their synergy.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d have 2-3 rim running or Herb Jones types hard working athletic Americans. I think it would be a great squad.

No, because hiring quotas diminish the quality of the employees you hire. Every single time.

Every team would be subject to the same rules… some people will take a little less quality to have more Americans… and all the true stars like Doncic, Wembanyama, and Jokic would keep their spots
