Jim Cantore suggested lake effect snow could have jacked up New Orlean’s snow total.

Pretty cool theory.

I live about 3 blocks from the lake on the south shore. By my calculations and rough estimates, we received about 11-12”.
It snowed nonstop from 645 am to 5 pm.
I planning on being stuck for 2-3 days.
Cantore can go back home.

It's not a suggestion, it's a fact.

Big Lee’s house in Old Metairie got 14 inches
And 12 inches of snow
And 12 inches of snow

Let me know when Russell’s Marina re-opens.

It may have, and you can even get river effect snow in the right conditions. Really any body of water of any size can give a boost.
Just comparing what radar in NOLA looked liked today to radar images from big lake effect events, it is hard to say. The returns on Reflectivity didn't look too have too much of a boost coming off the lake today.

That could be true if the percipitation was traveling north to south and not south to north.
Edit: if Lake Effect was true, Slidell benefitted. Not Nola

Where does the NWS take its official measurement?

The class discussed this earlier in the post.
Lake P is too small of a body of water to be of any significance of lake effect snow. It is also brackish. So the salt water would hinder the evaporation process.
We just got lucky this year with the right moisture and cold air mass that gave us the snowfall of record for the region.
Also the snow a was a fine powder. If it was lake effect it would be more corse and heavier.
That is what happens when you are stuck on TV and have too much time to talk. You start talking out of your arse.

Wherever their office is. They will take anyone's good measurements, though. You can tweet to @NWSNewOrleans. With an event like this they appreciate all observations to get a really good picture of how it played out.
ETA: There is also a way to submit the info on the NWS website, I think.

I am in Lakeview. I put an empty fifth in the grass. Only cork exposed now. Bottle is 12.25".

Didn't the main moisture come out of the Gulf?

In one of the meso discussions they mention the lake.

Well the gulf is a much larger body of water, so in many cases the gulf is the primary source of snow.

Lake Ponchartrain is an estuary, not a lake, Jim.

On a scale of Vietnam rice worker to Saints defensive lineman Big Lee got Carl Granderson’d.
