Watching these games, pocket passers have basically lost every playoff game. There's too much team speed on defense and not enough help most years ar the wr / rb / ol to just have a passing qb.

These offenses aren't crazy but they are more explosive than we were because their QBs run.

No, Notre Dame’s offense is not more explosive than LSU’s. Ohio State’s offense is more explosive than LSU’s because they have elite skill position players all over the field.

What do you think Michigan and Georgia had the last 3 years? Or Alabama had in 2020? What do you think Burrow was? Or Trevor Lawrence? Or Tua?

Don’t you know, there’s zero difference between Micheal Vick and Joe Burrow according to Rant experts

Even Notre Dame would rather doink a FG than trust a dual-threat QB on 4th and goal

Lulz, these threads always age well

All of those QBs are mobile.

Literally all of them. Ours wouldn't scramble for 3 if the defense had 11 waiting on the goal line.

I watched QBs scramble out of pressure all night and move around in the pocket.

That hasn't happened for us lately, not even in the bowl game. LSU has to prioritize mobility, composure and awareness over just having a cannon.

LSU doesn't have a 5 star line and a bunch of 5 star running backs. Without the numbers associated with having the extra running qb, and a legitimate read option attack, running rpo, play action etc is going to be difficult, and then they'll attack Sloan.

Wait.

Are you suggesting Riley Leonard is a pocket passer?

He's a below average passer.

Well, yeah. Don't you know the record setting offense of 2019 was because Joe averaged 20 ypg rushing and 3.2 ypc? That was key to everything! (sarcasm).

I mean you do realize Nussmeier is only like Mac Jones on this list, huh? All these other QBs had some degree of mobility running/scrambling with the football.

2024: Garrett Nussmeier 100ruYds 3 TD
2023: JJ McCarthy 359ruYds 3 TD
2022: Stetson Bennet 303ruYds 10 TD
2021: Stetson Bennett 365ruYds 1 TD
2020: Mac Jones 89ruYds 1 TD
2019: Joe Burrow 579ruYds 5 TD
2018: Trevor Lawrence 283ruYds 1 TD
2017: Hurts/Tua 1167ruYds 10 TD
2016: Deshaun Watson 746ruYds 9TD

And they're still pocket QBs, "literally" all of them, and not "literally" all of them are not mobile. Mac Jones is the exact opposite of mobile.

Regardless, a QB being mobile does not make him not a pocket passer.

Nuss does this a lot.

I think what the OP needed to say was Nuss needs to know when to pick up yards with his feet when the defense gives it to him rather than saying "pocket passers are a thing of the past." Because they absolutely are not a thing of the past.

Leonard is a below average QB in general. His inability to throw the football at a high level is why their offense relies on trying to slow down the game and limit possessions.

Burrow had the highest rate of 1st downs per rushing attempt in 2019

denying that Burrow's rushing wasn't a key part of the 2019 offense is insane

Burrow in LSU's biggest/closet games:

vs Clemson 11/84-1TD
vs OKLA 5/26-1TD
vs UGA 11/53
vs Bama 14/96
vs AUB 13/47-1TD
vs FLA 6/43
vs TX 9/33

all are very good passers but each of them also have wheels and aren't hesitant to use them.

That makes it so much more difficult for defenses.

Neither does notre dame or Ohio state. They just develop players. I'm starting to believe the rumors about Brad Davis are true.

Bingo. Nuss did it vs OU but didn't against aggy. It was frustrating to watch.

We are experimenting with this right now and will continue to do so next year. I hope they are not completely obsolete.
