Just got hit up for money by my coworker for her grandkids baseball program. Some type of raffle. A few months ago it was a discount card for football. Then a raffle for 7v7 football. And before that some type of gun raffle for underwater basket weaving.
Door to door in the office asking for money.

Am I disproportionally aggravated at this quarterly begging for money thing?

How else will Traylinn and Bradlie get their new bats and a trip to a totally meaningless tournament in Florida?

You selfish prick.

The things you're describing don't sound dissimilar to the fundraisers we did as kids

It's probably just that the people suck more now and don't have as much grace/sense of propriety in determining who to ask, how often, etc.

If it’s not cookies or popcorn, I’m not participating. Need to have an ROI on these things.

Many years ago there was a woman at work that got busted and fired for fake raffles of the same nature. She took it a step further than just travel baseball, she claimed it was for sick family members etc. She was Livingston Parish white trash. I'm talking fell out of the white trash tree and hit every Busch can ornament on the way down white trash.

I’ll do a raffle every single time

Don’t ask for a 100% handout though

I agree to an extent.

We never asked for money for 7v7 championships, 9U World Series, 9U state championship, and every other little event that makes up the entirety of this kid’s life.

Don’t you mean the “World Series”?

Oh and they’ll have another one the week after that where they travel 10 hours away to play a team from the same parish

I'll almost always buy a raffle ticket if guns are involved.

That’s the first WORLD SERIES out of 12 for little Bryyxxxtynnx, show some respect.

Done and done.

And will say no again in April for travel ball. Or summer ball.

My real question is whether or not it’s rude or I’m just too ornery. Could be both.

Yes, because it isn't begging for free money if they're providing something in return. You're free to decline participating.

Now, I've seen kids literally begging at stoplights (specifically Burbank/Lee) and that is just pathetic.

This is the lottery ticket hope the trailer park has dude.

As someone told me, people have been hoping for gladiator appointment from their Roman senator a long time. I suspect the panhandling becomes even more pervasive.

We sold donuts, oranges, Scout Show tickets and a bunch of other stuff I have probably forgotten. It has been going on since at least the 70s.

Yes. Give him/her five bucks and you'll be their hero.

Bingo. I would bet that if OP told the coworker that he doesn't have any cash, the coworker would immediately say, "That's okay, just Venmo me" or some dumb shite like that where they can't take a hint. And it sucks more because you're in an office environment which the coworker is taking advantage of.
