Well, well, well. Who could see this coming….Starbucks reverses its open-door policy

If you want to hang out or use the restroom at Starbucks, you’re going to have to buy something.
Starbucks on Monday said it was reversing a policy that invited everyone into its stores. A new code of conduct – which will be posted in all company-owned North American stores – also bans discrimination or harassment, consumption of outside alcohol, smoking, vaping, drug use and panhandling.
Starbucks spokesperson Jaci Anderson said the new rules are designed to help prioritize paying customers. Anderson said most other retailers already have similar rules.
“We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable in our stores,” Anderson said. “By setting clear expectations for behavior and use of our spaces, we can create a better environment for everyone.”
The code of conduct warns that violators will be asked to leave, and says the store may call law enforcement, if necessary. Starbucks said employees would receive training on enforcing the new policy.

The new rules reverse an open-door policy put in place in 2018, after two Black men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks where they had gone for a business meeting. The individual store had a policy of asking non-paying customers to leave, and the men hadn’t bought anything. But the arrest, which was caught on video, was a major embarrassment for the company.
At the time, Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz said he didn’t want people to feel “less than” if they were refused access.
“We don’t want to become a public bathroom, but we’re going to make the right decision a hundred percent of the time and give people the key,” Schultz said.

Since then, though, employees and customers have struggled with unruly and even dangerous behavior in stores. In 2022, Starbucks closed 16 stores around the country — including six in Los Angeles and six in its hometown of Seattle — for repeated safety issues, including drug use and other disruptive behaviors that threatened staff.

Good. Though I wish these progressive companies would test out these "feel-good" policies on just their own businesses and not try and push them into politics.

Yes, and she was awarded $25M by a jury over it.

consumption of outside alcohol,
Because they specifically banned the consumption of “outside” alcohol, does this mean they now sell alcohol with their coffee?

Never tried their specialty coffee but their regular coffee is nasty.

I’m all for any return to sanity. Good for them for realizing their idiocracy.

Little by little, one monumental moment in American history this past November is slowly turning the tide

I was in San Antonio for work and walked down to get a coffee waiting on my Uber to the airport. There were droves of homeless hanging out. I saw a guy grab a cup out of the outside trash and come in as I was waiting on my order. I went to the restroom and he asked for some change when I came out. I told him to get a job. He starts saying he was going to kill me. I told the cashier to call the cops. She knew him by name and said he was mentally ill. I caused a big commotion saying he threatened to kill me. Everyone in there acted like I was the bad guy. A lady pulls up in a white work van who was a ‘homeless advocate’ full badge and all and tells me I should be more compassionate and understanding. As this guy makes the throat slash gesture at me while she gives him a paper bag of fruit and a fresh pack of tube socks. I told them both to frick off and walked back to my hotel and had the Uber rerouted. Told my coworker at the valet stand and the valet said that the city had a big push to be more supportive of the homeless and it was killing their business.

Good for her. Did the black guys who started it all win anything?

I could have sworn they did this like two years ago. I guess not

Admittedly, I have but it’s only been for pussy. At almost 47 years old, I’ve never consumed, made, or purchased a cup of coffee for myself.

Little trick…..
DoorDash them a cup of their favorite seasonal Java the morning of seeing her or leaving her.
I paid $27 for a cup of some silly shite last week to be delivered. It set the tone for the rest of the day/ evening and paid off handsomely.
