And I don’t mean everywhere either - is it unreasonable for a train from DC to Boston should be under 3 hours than 7 or 8 hours on Amtrak?

Ps Trump is for high speed rail

What happened to the HyperLoop? I thought Elon had the plan worked out for that project 10 years ago.

Seems like elons tunnel idea is more terrorist proof and secure than a bullet train

Because most of the railroads in the United States are privately owned. For the government to build new rail lines to operate a bullet train it would mean having to purchase land that is privately owned. That could cost tens of billions of dollars.

It's cheaper for Americans to fly.

Because America is incapable of building anything anymore.

Look at CA’s attempt at high speed rail.

Our country has a bureaucratic nightmare of red tape and special interest groups.

There is no logic applied. It is all emotional rhetoric.

You have to assume some of the mess in California is due to the people that manage the state, also including their firefighting and forestry management and homeless programs.

I don't see Newsom and Harris's people waking up and being really efficient one day, and then building a railroad very well.

Why do we need a 100 billion dollar non-stop train between DC and Boston in the first place?

Because outside of the northeast corridor, AMTRAK doesn’t own their own tracks. So, passenger trains legally have right of way over freight, but don’t in practice. The costs to upgrade the tracks (and more so, the crossings) to accommodate high speed traffic are massive. The freight lines have no incentive, and AMTRAK has no money.

Because the politicians steal the majority of the money thus destroying the program.

Lack of track. Bullet trains would need their own exclusive track in the NE corridor with all of the other traffic

Why do we need airports? Or interstate highways?
