Letting McMahon go after this season would completely destroy the incoming talent

Would it not? I’m just asking. Seems it would set the program back again. Same thing happened when Wade was about to have his most talented incoming class, then it totally disintegrated.

Again, I’m not advocating for McMahon, but pulling a coach every time he has a top class coming the next year seems crippling.

What more do you need to see from him? Good class incoming or not the guy can’t win at this level time to cut him

They didn't even land Cenac. The recruiting class is good but it's nothing to keep a coach over.

this. If we landed Cenac I could see an argument with the freshmen we currently have.

Will Wade had a top five class before pussy Scott fired him. Who gives a shite McMahon can’t coach his way out of a paper bag

This is an AWFUL take.

His first recruiting class (including transfers) was ranked 17th (national) and 5th (SEC).

His 2nd recruiting class (including transfers) was ranked 47th (nationally) and 10th (SEC).

His 3rd recruiting class (including transfers) was ranked 22nd (nationally) and 5th (SEC).

He has not even finished the season on the bubble with 2 top 25 classes and 1 top 50 class. It's clear it's coaching at this point, the talent has been there to at least be a bubble team by now.

Good talent with poor coaching will still give subpar results. The foundation is the staff. Start there.

It would not matter. Either way the team next year would be mostly new players.

Depends on the hire.

Re-hire Will Wade and this basketball team not only gets more talent it competes with the top half of the SEC and easily makes it into the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Keep CMM and even with the committed talent right now, his team will be a bottom to mid tier team in the SEC and at best be a bubble team in 2026.

Would rather a coach that can do more with less than one that's doing less with more.

2022 SEC Class Rank: 6th
2022-23 SEC Results: 14th (2-16)

2023 SEC Class Rank: 7th
2023-24 SEC Results: T-7th (9-9)

2024 SEC Class Rank: 4th
2024-25 SEC Results: T-15 (0-2)
The two teams that LSU has lost to went 4-14 and 0-18 in the SEC last year.

Without a miracle turnaround this season, the only question is does McMahon make it through the season.

Wade had a historic type class and had proven what he could do with talent. Next year’s class is good, not great. Plus MM hasn’t proven he develop talent.

Make the right hire and portal will take care of replacing that class.

I doubt he will be released after this season but you can't ever really let that be a determining factor unless you are convinced that the only thing holding the guy back is his talent and not his coaching. I do not know that I am convinced of that.

It probably would result in most, possibly, all of the roster leaving. But that is not unique to LSU. That is the case now when any coaching change is made. Cal left Kentucky for Arkansas. Literally the entire UK roster left (either via graduation, draft, or transferring). Shortly after his arrival at Arkansas all but one of last year's Arkansas roster left.

Pope, with his totally new roster, is 12-3 with wins over Duke, Gonzaga and Florida. Arkansas is not faring quite as well. But given they were 16-17 (6-12) the year prior its not like the program has completely collapsed this season.

Set it back to what? Being one of the worst teams in the SEC for the 2nd time in 3 years? Because that is where things are heading right now.

College basketball is now, more than ever, a year to year sport. That means a program can go from awful to great literally in the span of one offseason. Sustaining that success is more difficult. But McMahon hasn't shown he can have great success in the first place, so why even worry about sustaining something that isn't present.

If this were 1995, 2005, or even 2019, your concerns may be more valid. But in 2025 its not that big of a deal, and not a reason to hold on to a poorly performing HC in hopes he might be able to do something he hasn't shown he's capable of doing in the first place.

It's not 1988. The first team might suck but if the coach is any good he can flip the roster in an offseason.

I think Woodward keeps McMahon for 5 years, unless enough wealthy boosters step up and demand a change. Scott won't fire him on his own.

It's sad because I think McMahon is a good person who is improving the team every year, but the improvement is so damn slow. All the other SEC teams are just sprinting past him as he jogs along.

We just need some energy. When I see McMahon, I see Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones. Not too encouraging.

The real damning part of this is how highly rated the classes have been in the SEC. Yet we are nowhere near even being in the top 8 of our conference.

And this is not advocating one way or the other, but the very few wealthy boosters who give a shite about LSU hoops....and I know one of them very well....are not pushing to make a change right now. So it won't come from them.
