Didn't realize his PT dropped that much. I thought they held him in super high regard. May have just been after the '22 season.

He was out all of 2023 with a torn ACL then only played on special teams in 2024 I believe.

Admittedly don't know much about this guy. Is he the blocking TE we are hoping for or is he more of an oversized WR?

The way Green is playing he makes me totally forget Mason Taylor has opted for the draft. But for this offense that features the TE so much, having more quality depth behind and with Green is not a bad thing at all.

Good thing is he has a good number of years left and he had production as a freshman.

Good blocker and receiver. Had a very promising freshman season in 2022 and was honorable mention freshman all American. Played in 10 games and started 4. Big dude. Tore his ACL and missed 2023 and then only played 7 games in 2024 due to further complications with the knee and getting back to full health mostly just special teams. If he’s fully healthy again and can get back to the form he showed in 2022 it would be an excellent get.

After watching this one game vs Arkansas in 2022 I love the take.
Can block and catch.

And he's probably not asking for much after 2 seasons without a stat recorded.

Taylor made a LOT of clutch catches throughout his career. Literally starting the very first game he played (crossing route at the end of the FSU game where, as a true freshman in his first game, had the awareness to dive out of bounds to allow LSU 1 final play). In fact, I'd say he was underutilized a bit in his time at LSU.
Green was solid in his first season and looks to have a bright future. He has the athleticism to be a big matchup problem. But they didn't ask him to do a ton and he wasn't the guy who was getting the ball when LSU HAD to make a play. There is every reason to believe he can make those plays, but until he's put in that spot you just don't know. I think it is pretty telling that on more than a few occasions when LSU needed a play they looked to Taylor.
As for LSU continuing to recruit the TE spot I'm not surprised. Right now you basically have two guys and an incoming true freshman on next year's roster. TE is a pretty physical position. It would be nice to have at least one more player there in case the numbers get low during the season.

Yep, we'll miss Mason Taylor a lot. But hopefully not too much as we have a stud or two waiting in the wings. TE production is a necessity to make Nuss a big success. That said, I like this aTm dude.

Would give us solid depth for a position we need.
Who is the TE coach?

We will miss Taylor he caught everything in his area code not athletic as Green but has great hands .

Aggies say he sucks but doubt that.

I agree…elite hands, pass catching ability, and route running…but I’m not sure I saw him break a single tackle in his time here….down on first contact almost every time…so I agree in that we will be more explosive at the position but he was so clutch when we needed a tough catch

Green will be better watch

Glad you gave a little more information about why Green didn't really bounce back much in 2024. Sounds like it was more still not being recovered from 2023 injury as opposed to being "passed by" via superior talent.

Taylor made some tough catches and was mostly reliable but he did have some crucial drops himself in 2023 vs Florida State and Alabama. Both routine catches too. It happens part of the sport. We’ll miss Mason most in the running game our run game struggled a ton in 2024 and the little success it did have Taylor was a huge part of it and he had the trust and chemistry of Nuss hopefully that’s something TreyDez and Nuss can develop over the offseason and in camp. Donovan Green would be a great addition too if he’s healthy and back to 2022 form. I like Sharp YAC ability too. Land Green and I feel good about the TE room.

Hate to break it to you but green just isn’t a tight end. Our run game will continue to struggle without a mobile quarterback if we don’t have a presence at TE from a blocking standpoint. Green in the bowl game missed some blocks on the perimeter where he has no excuse not to dominate. When he is in at TE it’s pretty much run away from him or play action - that’s too predictable and not sustainable.
Redzone matchup freak and will be valuable but I just don’t see him as an every down TE if we want to be successful.
