I know he suffered a broken hand so I’m trying to give him some leeway but I see now why no team is ever sad when they trade away Dejounte.

He just doesn’t look like the answer we’ve been wanting at PG. He takes some really dumb shots and it doesn’t seem like he makes guys around him better.

Maybe he improves but he’s been a major disappointment

Per 36, he has nearly twice the turnovers as any season in his career since his rookie season. And his FG% is 100 points lower than his career average. We are not seeing the real Murray right now. And it’s anyone’s guess as to why. (Coaching, injury, small sample, etc)

Not sure what I think about him...yet. The way things worked out, I wish we had DD back BUT we actually thought we might have a shot at "going for the cheese" if everything worked out perfectly this season so...we made the trade. I'm not gonna criticize the trade now...cos at the time...I thought it might work out very well...but alas...things didn't work out "perfectly" and...

Hindsight is 20/20...(at least, he should be fairly easy to "move"...if we decide that needs to happen)

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt since he has the career sample size to say his insane turnover rate is a fluke.

Outside of the turnovers, his last 3 games are pretty consistent with his career with about 45.6%/41.6%/85.7%. 17.6/8/6.3 is around what his production should be.

By the way, “bad” Murray per 36 is:

18, 7.6 assists, 7 rebounds and 2.2 steals. Imagine if he wasn’t hurt, playing with Zion, and shooting normal percentages. A fantasy for us I realize.

Even then, the "real" Murray was never going to be some star that put us over the top.

He has always been a meh player when it comes to efficiency and its why two teams have been fine trading him away for packages that didn't return star players.

Imagine being the Capitan of Willie's iso ball offense. Very few screens and lack of continuity offense certainly increases TO's and poor shot attempts.

Yea I mean I'm fine moving everyone but Trey, Herb, and Missi so I'm not attached to him but I certainly think it's too early to hate on him. He's with a new team and pretty awful situation around him, so it's not like he's in a position to succeed.

I also think the hype has died down on Dyson as well. His Per 36 numbers aren't really much improved from last year. His assists, rebounds, and 3pt% are all actually down. Standard fg% is the same. He's simply just has more volume and has looked better on the defensive end. Ceiling still looks good but I think his improvement is a little overstated around here.

Yep...I totally agree with you on Dyson. I still think he has potential...but, up here, I've watched every Hawks' game with Dyson...and it's just like you say.

There’s a trend for being the lead guard on a Willie Green team and having a bad season.

Ima say every team he’s be a part of has been complete arse or disgustingly mediocre. Willie greens offensive philosophy or lack thereof isn’t helping at all either

Motion offense with 3 guys (McCollum, Murphy, and boston/Hawkins/Ingram) who can move and a lob threat should not be struggling this much to get an open 3

No big man at center is hurting him (Missi plays like a forward, not a big bulky physical guy), as well as Willie's small ball fetish hurts DM. No Zion and BI nightly and no inside game offense is killing his style of play. Just my opinion.

Well he isn't a star. He is a very solid starter.

Pels need another pg after the cj dish. There’s a couple backup pgs in the league that would walk in and take ownership. Doubt that’s allowed

Dyson's not a lead guard in the NBA. He's not that for the Hawks and he wasn't that for the Pels, though they tried it out.

Murray was brought in to be a lead guard. Jury is still out on whether he can. He was quite good in that role for San Antonio. It was clunky in Atlanta, but that was with Trae, who is very ball dominant.

Murray was supposed to be an orchestrator, a guy who ran the show at the end of games to make sure the ball went where it should. That's been pretty hit and miss so far. He looks to me like he's pressing. I'm happy to withhold any judgments for a couple of months to see how/if he settles into the role.

And he was absolutely brought here to play with Zion. If Zion goes, I'm not sure Murray stays or even should stay...

Dyson is basically a stronger version of Herb. He's an elite defender you mask on offense. Murray doesn't require masking, in addition to being a good defender.

Murray is up against what has plagued BI for years. When Zion goes down, we're left with a clunky roster full of complimentary pieces without the piece they're meant to compliment. We then expect Murray or BI to work miracles as the only NBA-level creator available. Until we completely ditch the idea of building around Zion, we are stuck.
