I started the Thanksgiving travel thread a little late this year so starting this one early
Where is everyone off to for their Christmas and New Years vacation this year?
I am currently enjoying an early ski trip to WA outside of Seattle and then heading to Aspen the day after christmas for 5 days. Found a hotel in Basalt for $125/night which I thought was a steal for that area especially during Christmas week. My flight to Aspen has been sold out for 2-3 weeks already, will see if it's actually oversold and they need volunteers. Depending on the amount might end up flying into Denver, Eagle, or Grand Junction and driving the few hours but I won't know until day of. Oh and it looks like there's a ton of snow that's going to hit the PNW, west coast, and mountain west right before and during Christmas week.

Driving to New York tomorrow. Going to spend 4 days there, then fly down to Houston to be with my wife’s side of the family for 5-6 days.

Heading West after Christmas in search of warm temps and sunshine. Definitely going to Tucson, but we might head up toward Sedona as well, if the weather is right for cycling. Otherwise we will probably just stick to Tucson.

Currently in New York for Christmas visiting family. Heading back to Chicago on Christmas Day. We were able to get to our only non-family dinner at Kazumi Omakase last night. Have a big family dinner tonight in the East Village.

MSP -> MSY for me this weekend.
I image that Saturday will be one of the busiest airport travel days of the year?

Short little road trip this year:
Day after Christmas, head up to Hattiesburg to spend the day with my dad and that side of the family. Will spend the night there.
Next morning, drive up to Birmingham to catch my other alma mater (Georgia Tech) play Vandy in the Birmingham Bowl. Look forward to checking out the relatively new Protective Stadium. Will have a nice dinner after and spend the night in Birmingham.
Next day, drive up to Lynchburg, TN and visit the Jack Daniels Distillery, then visit the University of the South campus in Sewanee, TN (one of only two current or former SEC campuses I haven't visited; the other is Oklahoma). Will also see a few natural features (waterfalls, overlooks, natural bridge) around there, then drive to Chattanooga to go on top of Lookout Mountain just before sunset. Spending the night in Chattanooga.
Next day, head all the way home but taking a roundabout route via a lot of backroads in western Georgia and eastern Alabama to add more counties and just enjoy the drive and scenery. Will stop at Chickamauga National Battlefield and the top of Cheaha Mountain in Alabama (highest point in that state)

Check out 1885 Grill near the boarding for the Incline Rail that goes up there. Not a bad landing spot for some grub.

Ethiopia
I'll do a thread, because for most of you, Ethiopia is the most amazing country that you'd never consider visiting.

Leave Saturday from Buffalo, fly to LAX, and drive down to south Orange County. Be there for a week, then fly back and make my way back to central New York just before New Year's.

Heading to Amsterdam on Christmas. We’ll hit Belgium for two days and spend New Year’s Eve in Paris. From there we are going to London and then home.
We are packing light and moving fast. We hope to see a lot while we are there. I’ve been to Europe several times but my son hasn’t and we are looking forward to it.

I kind of hate to admit it, but we are going to Pigeon Forge 12/31-1/5.
Our kids are 12 & 14 and the last time we went was 6 years ago. They have been asking to go somewhere with rollercoasters, so we are going to hit Dollywood for 2 days then spend a day at Ober for some snow.
As cheesy as that area can be, it really is a great family spot. Just gotta prepare yourself to see all sorts of white trash that you never knew existed.

Went last night, actually, with my wife and a couple of my cousins. Swung over around midnight and got seated straight away. No food at that time and they did last call at 1am.
We also did Superbueno before. Probably worth a stop if you've never been. Don't expect a table if you don't have a reservation, but you can stand at the bar.

That's in the LES right off Delancey right? Kind of two different places in one?
Was there for Xmas time 2022...

Yup. The Coop is their back cocktail room, which is the experience most are looking for. I've been 30 minutes before opening a couple times and seated back there without much issue. Last night was just a bit lucky... it was still pretty crowded at midnight.
ETA: Abita - If you get to Williamsburg, head to The Test Brewery. They opened their patio/garden in July and inside in October. They brew on LI, but gotta be some of the better hazies I've had in awhile.
