That would be the smartest thing he's done all year.

That's not how that works. The government is not sending you a check against your $1MM losses.

Yeah, this is essentially a bad year for perma bears and people who are trying lots of short selling.

Guy on twitter legitimately lost more than $60 million a couple of weeks ago on a pharma company he was long on after their drug failed a clinical trial.

He had been the biggest cheerleader of the drug beforehand even though the scientist behind it had been indicted by the feds for research fraud. The company had attracted a cult following that was convinced they were sticking it to big pharma by investing.

I am pretty sure he understands they won't be getting an indemnity check from the IRS but the other party with the realized STCG will be stroking him a check for an agreed upon percentage of the money they save on the taxes due on their STCG.

This is an individual variation of something companies have done for years but they often aren't planning an immediate diverse afterwards.

No, but filing jointly would save the spouse from paying a hefty amount of capital gains on her $1M in realized gains. So the idea is that if she saves $300k in short term capital gains taxes, they split the savings and she gives him $150k and keeps $150k of savings for herself

Good like finding a lady with 1M capital gains. It would have to be that mom from the “Is mommy a finance bro” commercial.

Reddit is such an amoral cesspool.

There is no amount of money that would compel me to marry someone.

Would be awesome if some girl marries him and screws him over for alimony for the rest of his life.
