God forbid this question even be asked when it comes to college, but what is everyone's opinion on pro sports?

I'm a lifelong Braves fan and could never imagine switching either (unless woke mind virus/DEI hires came in and changed the franchise, i.e., changing the mascot, etc.)

But I definitely feel less 'attached' to any particular NFL team. I'm a Falcons fan... but I was a Panthers fan when I was a kid. Had the mini set with the helmet and solid black football and everything. I started following the Falcons closely in college only because I had a friend that was and said it was because everyone else was a Panthers fan. I guess part of me also thought it was cool to keep it in the same city, since I was already a Braves fan.

I imagine if I ever did change, I'd just be a Panthers fan. It's not like either franchise is good. Charlotte is an immensely better city, and I am way closer - I sometimes go to Charlotte FC matches already too.

Tldr; Falcons suck.

I'm sure it happens all the time. Pros aren't college; you can' have an actual, real legitimate tie to a pro team unless you know someone that played for them or worked for them. It's a business entity that exists for entertainment and to take money from you. I'm quite certain that people move cities all the time and then pick up a new team to root for.

My mom was a Browns fan in baseball and when the team left she became a Cardinals fan.

I had a Hornets backpack in first grade back in the mid-90s or whenever I was in first grade. Back when Bogues was still playing. I attended a Bobcats game ( ) only when Kobe/Lakers came into Charlotte once, and paid around $2 for a nosebleed.

I remember campaigning for the Hornets to come back (there was some unofficial social media page or something, and they made some nice tshirts so I got one - think it was Bring Back The Buzz), but in the end I still don't consider myself an NBA team specific fan, and only pay attention at playoffs.

Personally, I was never a big Saints fan. I rooted for their success and was very happy when they won the Super Bowl

Fantasy Football made me a Bills fan. I traded for Josh Allen in 2019 after losing Andrew Luck in my dynasty league. I got a lot of shite, so I was really pumped to see it work out. Then in 2020 he exploded. I made it a point to watch their games and then I just became a fan.

I don’t know anything about their history other than the Super Bowl losses, but I have a better day when they win

I still root for the Saints success

I dont watch the NBA now but i switched from a Lakers fan ( since back in the Magic/Kareem days) to a Pelicans fan when they got the team.

I dont watch the NFL now but i was a Redskins fan until they changed the name

The only pro sport I watch regularly is MLB and I have never switched from the Mets.

I watch a little NHL here and there and dont really have a team.

Yes, grew up a Packers fan cause my Dad was a fan of them when they had Jimmy Taylor and before the Saints came along, so I was a Packer fan to.

I eventually switched to being a Saints fan for many and varied reasons but I do still like Green Bay.

Also in basketball I grew up a Laker fan from the Jerry West/Wilt days, but soured on them when Shaq left - and now a suffering Pels fan.

Been a Cub fan all my life and will be till the day I die.

I really only watch football these days, but I've been a NY Giants fan since 1985. I remember my dad and older brother watching football all the time and I wanted to be like them so they told me I needed to pick a team. I picked the Cowboys and my dad told me to pick again . My dad was a 49ers fan. My brother was a Giants fan and he knew everything about them so I just picked them as well. The won the Super Bowl the next year. I almost switched to the Jets a few years later but couldn't pull the trigger. For context, I've never stepped foot in the states of NJ or NY.

I actually stopped watching NFL for a few years(1999-2002) while I was in the Air Force. The Giants have been to a total of 5 Super Bowls. All four that I watched, they won. The one I didn't, they lost.

I was a Seattle Supersonics fan back in high school. I haven't followed NBA since probably 2003.

Went from the Sonics to the Hornets when NOLA finally got a team. I still felt bad when Mr Starbucks sold the team and led to them moving to OKC.

Yes, my favorite NFL "team" is my fantasy team, since it can win me some money. Since I don't watch the NFL much anymore, I soon need to quit fantasy because now I can't name most of the players or have no clue who they play for outside of the really big names.

Pro sports are VERY easy to quit.

Definitely happened to me. I’m way more attached to college sports so pro teams change sometimes. I grew up a Red Sox fan (pre curse break). By the time I was in college I was more following the Astros since I was able to go to a few games and then Bregman went there.

In the NFL I’ve never considered myself a big fan of a team, just followed players that I like.

sigh

When did I ever say you can't be a fan of who you want? What I said, and you actually quoted, is that you can't have an actual, real life tie to the business entity that is the professional sports team without having a connection to a player of staff member, past or present. With colleges you can, obviously...go there. You can attend a school and get a degree from there. It's an institution of higher learning that also has an athletic team. You don't have that connection with a business.

as a kid I was a die hard Braves fan because them and the Cubs were the only 2 teams on TV back then.

as I got older and had access to everybody, I find myself floating around to watching interesting teams.
the '03-'08 ish Red Sox for example. Wouldn't say I was a "fan" since there was no actual emotional investment in if they won or lost, but enjoyed watching that team play.
Also would watch a lot of West Coast games late at night. Mainly the Dodgers just to hear Vin Scully call the games.

Not teams but sports. I used to be really into football but now I'm really into rugby.

I grew up in NJ as a giants, yankees, rangers and knicks fan, those are still my favorite teams.

BUT I moved to Louisiana 20 plus years ago, so now I’m also a fan of the Saints and Pels.
